The Official Fall 2014 UCLA Transfer Decisions Thread

Wow, I can’t believe some people want to $300,000 to go to a mediocre school, like NYU! UCLA is a way better school and cost a fraction of what NYU charges.

I’m not talking about the thefts. I’m talking about it being the most dangerous campus in America. Thefts are one thing, bodily harm another.

Supposedly that article was taking into account all of UCLA’s satellite properties, which include done sketchier locales. Stanford was also on that list (or the revised one) and that is also a major joke. We live near Stanford and it’s in a super-safe bucolic area. And USC isn’t even on it!

Here is the LA Weekly article that notes UCLA no longer #1 most dangerous:

@collegedropout, I was just at NYU yesterday. It is pretty awesome and hardly mediocre. Worth 300K for UG? No, but some people are in a position where money isn’t a factor.

Edit: just followed the link. Yeah, taking on 300k in debt for NYU is insane. LOL.

NYU is a great school! :stuck_out_tongue:

@lindyk8‌

I see. :O

@Zalrons‌

What sucks about NYU is that it is very notorious for its awful financial aid offers. They offer far more in loans than in grants to many, if not most of its accepted applicants.

Just google “Why is NYU financial aid so bad?”. You’ll get some interesting results.

@Cayton Some parents were actually encouraging their child to take out $300,000 worth of loans to be able to go to NYU. I think child protection services should have take that child away from those parents.

Most students just want to go for the NY part not the U, lol.

Is anyone else going to UCLA tomorrow? I decided to go to the campus one last time to finish some business.

I’m probably going tomorrow to get my BruinCard to skip the lines at orientation.

Anyone know how difficult is NYU is to get into compared to the UCs?

NYU is comparable to USC. It’s pretty much the USC of the east coast. It’s a really good school. They have a phenomenal business program and Film school- just like USC.

@2016Candles @ocnative is right, most people go there because it is located in New York City. The way NYU achieved its high ranking is also really dubious. That is why they offer so little financial aid to their students.

A lot of people go to USC because it’s in LA.

This was years ago, but I almost went to NYU after high school. They have me a full ride.

@2016Candles Are you serious? Why didn’t you go if it was free? By the way, do you know if you are going to go to UCLA?

The short answer is because I let other people make my decisions.

I’ll make a decision about UCLA after orientation. Then I’ll find out if all my units transfer, and if I can get the classes I need. I have session 202.

Can you give me the long answer?

@k4201505‌

Its admit rate is around 35%.

Just remember you asked for the long answer.

Well basically it was like this. My mother knew that I applied to NYU and it was my first choice. My father didn’t know that I had applied. Once I was accepted and got a full scholarship, I was going to talk to him about it. Unfortunately my best friend’s mother didn’t know that my father didn’t know, and she inadvertently told him about NYU before I did.

My dad then got pissed because he always had this thing where he though that my mom try to keep things from him about the kids. So then my dad gets mad at my mom and mom tried to defend me and I just felt very caught in the middle.

My father was very against me going away to school that far away from LA. Aside from one private school in California, I had only apply to out-of-state schools. So basically to appease my father I was going to go to the private school and Southern California. They did not give me a full scholarship, and neither of my parents could really afford to pay the difference. That basically meant I could defy my father and go out of state, or I could go to community college.

Sure you’re wondering why didn’t I to AUCs or Cal states. Well thing about that is this… I had planned to apply to a UCs and Cal states, but here’s what happened. This was back in the stone ages where you actually had to physically mail in your application. I waited until the very last day to get it in the mail, and it have to be postmarked by November 30. That evening my mom took my Cal state and UC applications to the post office to get them mailed. Literally she was in front of the post office, and was robbed at gunpoint. They stole her bag that had my applications in it. So this is how I ended up with only out-of-state options plus one private option.

Since a thousand years later I’m just now getting the point of finishing my degree, I can, with authority say people just need to do what they need to do, and cannot worry about pleasing the rest of the world.

O.O

Oh wow, I would have been so mad if someone had ruined my application by stealing it. It is amazing how you got over it.

Who robs a post office…? Not downplaying the situation, but wow.
