The Official Fall 2014 UCLA Transfer Decisions Thread

@CollegeDropout1‌
You have to remember this wasn’t something that happened yesterday, so I have had a lot of time to move past it. I remember when it first happened, I blamed my dad for me not going to NYU and not going to college etc. etc. But after a while I realize that it was not my dad’s fault, it wasn’t the guy robbed my mom’s fault, it was all me.

Is my applications have been done sooner, I would’ve had more time to mail them on another day. If I had listened to my own instincts, I would have gone to NYU anyway. If I was mature and grown-up enough to move away from home and live in New York City, then I should’ve been just as mature and grown-up enough to tell my father that this was something that I needed to do. If I have been a better student in community college, then I could’ve transferred to a four-year school eons ago.

There were several points in that whole scenario that I could have done something different.

@2016Candles Isn’t amazing how one person (the robber) impacted your life so much. Here is a person that you have never met, and probably never will, yet he altered your life so much. I know that you could have mailed your applications sooner, but he still prevented them from being mailed. Do you ever think about these things? I ask because something similar happened to me, but not to this extent. These are the things that keep me up at night. The important thing is that you are going to finish your degree.

The thing is, that if you change any one thing in life, then everything else that follows that changes too. If I had ended up going to a UC or whatever, then I wouldn’t have the friends that I have, wouldn’t have the relationships that I have, I wouldn’t have done the things that I’ve done, and I’m not complaining about my life.

Getting my degree is something that I want to do for me. It’s not about righting a wrong or trying to make up for something that didn’t happen years ago.

But yes it is completely crazy how a person who you have never met, will never can completely alter the course of your life. But you will find that as you get older that actually happens quite a bit, and sometimes it’s for the better.

Great, now you scared me! You and BurntCorpse have a talent for that. So have you been going to community college since you left high school? Or did you take breaks?

NYU is known for its film school. A lot of top directors graduated from there. Hard to get into.

NOOOOO! I took like a semester’s worth of classes back then, and that was it. Since then I’ve been working and doing different things. I have a total of 67 community college units, and only 9 of them are from way back when. The other 58 I earned beginning fall 2012, and finishing December 2013.

Stop being a scaredy-cat. Life is fun! :-)

Did anyone start the alcohol class? I did what it let me do and it took forever to click through it with the sound off, lol.

@CSB111 I wasn’t even aware we had to do an alcohol class. Was it one of those preachy classes?

Sort of, it is one of those “hip” interactive programs. You have to watch dumb videos that you can’t skip through. I think I know where I stand through experience/trial and error, lol.

@CSB111‌

Ugh, I got an email about those alcohol education classes. I guess it’s important, but I don’t feel like doing it right now lol

Wow, It is going to take my CC 6 months to get me IGETC certified. I think that is a record. Seriously, my CC’s administration represents everything that is wrong with bureaucracy in America. They are rude, lazy ,and inefficient.

Yikes.

@Lindyk8 Yikes is an understatement.

I wonder if UCLA is willing to work with me on this. I am going to call them tomorrow.

It’s certainly not your fault and I’m sure UCLA actually would like to know if some CC is dawdling like that. I know they are accepting of late IGETC cert, but I also know they have asked CCs to try and work with them and let them know if they are going to be late.

I’m an adult, so you might not want to do this, but this is what I would do because as an adult, I can be pudgier than you guys: (NOTE: I meant pushier, but it auto-corrected to pudgier, which may be true. :D)

I would call the admissions office at your CC - or go in. I would ask again how soon they can get the cert out, time is of the essence, blah blah. Then if they start with the six months, I would ask for that admissions person’s name and say that the person I spoke with about this six month delay at UCLA asked for the name because they never heard of such a thing. So you would like to have their name to bring back to UCLA. Say it all nicely but with a tone that this needs to be worked out.

I’m sure that will get a fire going under someone’s butt.

I just retracted my SIR from UCLA, and I am at peace with my decision. :slight_smile:

I somewhat forgot to apply for my Bruin Card… Just wondering, what should I do next?

Apply for it? You can go to the BruinCard place and get your card like I did today (they will take your picture for you if you didn’t submit one online) or you can wait until orientation. You don’t have to apply for it.

Oh okay, I was on the UCLA Application Status and things to do… It said Deadline July 1st. So it through me offF. I’ll probably just go to school and they’ll do it.

Good grief, the Facebook page just keeps delivering. I love how people think they are entitled to parking because they “need” to go home on the weekends and “need” to get around town.

I guess people don’t realize what college is about.

@CSB111‌ Welcome to UCLA! Home of entitled pricks and dat Hollywood mindset.

I kid, I kid.
