The Official Fall 2014 UCLA Transfer Decisions Thread

hey guys, how do you go about getting work study? Do you just call/email the person in charge as listed on the work study list on my.ucla.edu? thanks

That seems complicated @cayton. Is that how it is at Berkeley? I don’t remember.

@CollegeDropout1‌ re the 6 overnighters, not sure how it went because she only texted me briefly last night. There were two to a room and two others from next door were in their room around 11 and all four were talking about boyfriends and ex-bf’s. So it sounds like it went OK. :smiley:

She also just texted me the mattresses are BAD (at least at Rieber) and she wants that memory foam pad they are selling in the mailer that was just sent out.

@lindyk8‌

No, Berkeley also follows the simple numbering scheme you listed.

@randombookie there is an area where they have job listings for work study for the fall quarter. It doesn’t go up until around mid august though. You gotta apply through there i think
Edit:
Okay you gotta go through the financial aid office website and find work study and they’ll show you job listings and such. August 18th is when the applications for the academic year become available

@ocnative @lindyk8‌

It’s how it’s done at many schools from what I’ve heard. I do admit that it’s complicated, though.

I’m not even sure of the purpose of the course by year nowadays. Maybe at some point it was worthwhile. But to assign classes arbitrarily by grade - maybe they realized it was unfeasible as class lists expanded and it confused people. I’m a junior, can I take the senior class? Etc.

@squashbanana, thank you SO MUCH for the info. Unfortunately the work study ucla link doesn’t work. Is it just me?

Memo from daughter:

“So for college confidential ppl. NSAs [new student advisors] can put requests in for impacted classes and they will get a call back saying if they can do it or not.”

Anyone who says you don’t need a laptop or tablet for orientation is not correct! It’s not a requirement, but it will certainly make planning for registration 100X easier.

The chaos is now beginning for 202! Good luck! Anyways, one of the classes I enrolled in that ended up “closed” just opened another spot so I assume they keep 1-2 slots open for various classes every orientation.

The morning of/ or night before orientation, they open the formerly closed classes. They open a different number for each course. For Soc classes they opened like 4-5 classes with 10-15 spots each.

I’m a lot more optimistic about class registration now. Thanks, guys.

My CAR has been rejected. Twice. I’m willing to buy a double De Neve or Sunset housing arrangement if any CC’ers are willing to swap with me (Triple in De Neve).

How much are you willing to pay?

Does anybody know where I can view my missing transcripts/documents required? I am very sure I sent them both but UCLA just sent me a notification through e-mail sayng otherwise.

God, I was looking at all the merit/departmental scholar programs at UCLA. There are some for math, one for math/econ and some other ones. The one for math, you have to take a qualifying exam to start the masters coursework, I looked at it and cried. I’ve never seen any of it.

EDIT: You take it when you’re done I guess, but it still looks like chaos.

Orientation feedback;

Ok, registering for classes is not bad IF you are prepared. The people who had the most issues were those who weren’t clear on what they wanted/ needed. Make sure you know which classes have prereqs, and which courses are restricted by major.

I had a plan, 4 plans in fact. I was able to start registering right at 7, and was out of the building by 7:15. I woulda been out sooner, but I had to complete the evaluation form. I got the exact schedule I wanted.

People also had trouble when they were trying to take the obviously popular classes with only a handful of spots. For my major there were 2 classes that are prep work for the major, but not prereqs, so not taking them right away doesn’t hurt you. I decided to forgo those altogether since they are offered every quarter, and I can get into them in the Winter. So while everyone was fighting over those, I breezed they mine.

Did I mention that I LOVE my schedule :-)

@CSB111‌

lol, did it have some really crazy ■■■■, like combinatorics or something?
