The Official Fall 2014 UCLA Transfer Decisions Thread

@2016Candles Awesome!thank you so much!you really helped to lower my stress levels! ^:)^

Can I get into UCLA with a 3.5?

Does anybody know what the course website is for Haven? I can’t find it anywhere on the website. Also, I couldn’t add the course the everfi, but I do remember taking the first part of the sexual harassment course.

African-American Studies, easily.

@tonystark93 yes you can get in with a 3.5! I had a 3.5 when I applied, I know it also depends on your major though.

With a 3.5 your PS and ECs should be stellar. What Major ate you interested in?

I just completed the AlcoholEdu course.

Biggest. Waste. Of. Time. Ever.

@Cayton The alcoholedu was indeed a big old waste of time, and you have to look forward to a second part. Haven on the other hand is even a bigger waste of time. I’m nearly certain I got the pre quiz/test/survey thing hundred percent correct, but they made me still go through the course. You can’t even skip it easily, their are these mini tasks you have to go through each section.

@BurntCorpse If you’ve taken the sexual harassment course on everfi that should have been the Haven part. On everfi if you look towards the top right corner you should see your name. Click your name and hit dashboard (if there is no option for dashboard, you’re already in dashboard). From here look at upper right corner again, and just below your name there is a section to “Add a Course.” Add the Haven course if you haven’t done so already, but if you have you should just see the two courses on your dashboard like http://i.imgur.com/jnGGpOV.jpg</a> .

@TonyStark93 It really depends on multiple factors. It depends on the major you’re going for. Most stem and impacted majors would be difficult with a 3.5 gpa, however if you get outstanding marks on all required courses listed on assist (nearly all As) then you have a decent chance. Also, take into consideration that personal statements would be worth more from now on. Considering that UCLA “will start using holistic review for transfer admission (Fall 2015)” (source http://askmssun.livejournal.com/330239.html</a> ) your personal statement could give you that extra edge to overcome your relatively low gpa. I am never too sure how ECs are weighted, but you want at least some. I believe admission office look for ECs that is significantly related to your major (an internship is a huge plus), but then again I don’t think it matter as much as your academic performance. If you can tell us your major then we can give you a better idea.

I’m not sure why I can’t edit it after a certain time, but the second paragraph should have contained a link to imgur… Not sure why it got asterisks in the middle, but it should be http:// i.imgur /jnGGpOV.jpg . Also, why doesn’t basic bb code work? It looks like it worked when I previewed it, but it breaks once I post it.

CC blocks links to certain websites, imgur and Facebook being a few examples.

Hey guys I realize that each orientation saves a certain number of spots for major related classes, but what about electives (100-199)? Been looking at elective classes and they all seem to be closed or waitlisted…

My daughter had some electives open up that were closed, but not sure if someone dropped or it just opened. up.

I had a question on FA, I was hoping I can get some help on it. I got an email on the 26th stating my loans can not be disbursed until I complete a MPN from the StudentLoans.Gov. I completed it that day, just wondering when should I expect to get the loans? Thank you in advance.

^^^ About 1 -2 weeks before school starts.

It seems that my degree audit report can now finally compile a completed version, but at the moment kind of confused on this new system.

If my IGETC certification is pending, it means I shouldn’t be taking any more ge class right?

Also, what’s Technical Breadth Requirement? At a glance it seems like almost like a minor within engineer major, which seems interesting but confusing at the same time.

It seems like I went way over 105 units, so does that mean I only have 81 units left in order to finish my degree?

Thanks as always, and it seems I’m always asking questions instead of helping…sorry.

does anyone know how and where we pay for orientation?

It will be billed to your Bruin Bill in September

Can anyone confirm that closed elective classes open up a couple spots on orientation day?

edit: Also for those of you who have already registered for classes, would you mind explaining the process to add classes? (Do you add all of your classes at one time, registration code, etc) Thanks

lindyK8 - “My daughter had some electives open up that were closed, but not sure if someone dropped or it just opened. up.”

2016Candles - “The morning of orientation they opened a few Soc classes up, so right now even though it says closed it may still be an option. The ones I remember for sure that they opened are Soc 20, 101, 111. Probably others but I can’t say for sure.”

Zalrons - “The chaos is now beginning for 202! Good luck! Anyways, one of the classes I enrolled in that ended up “closed” just opened another spot so I assume they keep 1-2 slots open for various classes every orientation.”

2016Candles - “The morning of/ or night before orientation, they open the formerly closed classes. They open a different number for each course. For Soc classes they opened like 4-5 classes with 10-15 spots each.”

So judging by these statements some classes do open up, but there is no guarantee which classes becomes available on orientation. My guess is that any class “closed by department” has a better chance of becoming open rather than those closed due to becoming full.

Yeah, it’s kind of a crapshoot but my daughter said there are two things they can do if a class says closed. They can call in a request to get into a class, which is an immediate yes or no on the phone. Or for the really impacted ones, they send an email-type request and then you have to wait about 20 minutes for the response. It’s hit and miss.

The one thing I will say is if you want something make sure they try it. I got the sense that the NSAs might not necessarily be as pro-active as he or she could be. My daughter’s NSA was really nice but was trying to put her into a class she didn’t really want and she insisted he try something, and she got into it. Remember, if you have planned it out, you know your schedule and ultimate two year plan better than the NSA, so listen to them, obviously, but keep in mind options that might be available.

And remember, there’s a final pass later on when things could change around.
