The Official Fall 2014 UCLA Transfer Decisions Thread

@jonjon03 @lindyk8 Thanks so much for the response guys, I appreciate it. Really just hoping these classes will 100% open up. If there were any pre reqs though im assuming it would say above the course title on Schedule of Classes? Havent seen any of the “closed by departments” i think.

Also would you guys happen to know how to find the final exam date if I am waitlisted for a course?

@goodjobdaveman‌
In the schedule of classes, click the course number below the name. That will open up all the course details such as prereqs and major restrictions.

Click on the course link and it gives description, date of final and any pre-reqs. I think it just says crs in small letters before the days and time.

@lindyk8‌
Great minds :-)

I know I saw that! I think we need to get a life, haha… @2016Candles‌ :open_mouth:

I’m actually in the middle of a boring 2 day team meeting. This is keeping me from falling asleep :-)

I’m actually in the middle of a boring 2 day team meeting. This is keeping me from falling asleep :-)

You must be bored. You posted it twice! I-) I-) I-)

For my fellow History(or should I say, Pre-History) majors, are you going to lean towards taking Western Civilization courses(1A,1C), or going to go with the World History(20, since, I do not see 21 nor 22(? It appears Western has more courses, yet World history? I think, i will be leaning towards World… Any clue, who is a good professor to take?

@tik1127. Western civ
As far as professors its kind of hard we have a lot of grad students teaching so no reviews on them.

There is one history preofessor who is like famous and everyone loves him but hes only teaching freshmen this quarter. Ruiz hes teaching a class on the time period of jane Austin pride and prejudice but its restricted to freshmen

Which 96 or 97 class do you plan to take?

Pre-history major here. For most transfers the only course that we need to complete is the 96 or 97w(seminars) To declare the major. I’m pretty sure you completed the1a-1c or 20-23 requirment from transferable history classes. When you go to orientation and meet with the department advisor he will give you a better idea of what to take.

@cochoa14‌

Thanks for the replies.

@cochoa14‌, yes, I took Into Wester Civil 1 and 2 at LAVC, it was a part of the pre-requs which is showing on Assist.ORG. So, I guess, I just need to take 97 or 96W.

@sonic23‌

I was leaning towards World History(Sucker for European history), but since it appears that I have taken Into West Civil 1&2 at my CC, then I guess, I just need to take 96W or 97. As for taking a course is 96 or 97… I am leaning towards 97C, Variable Topics in European History. That is if I am even permitted to take that…

Now, I will need to find other classes to take, electives and whatnot. I have yet to find anything enticing. LOL, any suggestions? One last question, my orientation is in a couple weeks, when and where do I pay for it?

@‌ Tik1127

You should be able to take that course. However, the history advisor was telling us to take those courses very seriously 96w or 97. Apparently those courses are very difficult. That kind of scared me and decided to take that class In the winter. As for paying for orientation, its going to be billed on your bruin bill.

Difficult you say? I have never been overly worried about difficult courses, but, it will be my first quarter, I do not want to kill myself right away.

Just curious, what courses are you taking this quarter?

@Tik1127.

I’m taking 3 upper division courses. 2 history, 1 Jewish studies. I want to get the feel of the quarter system and see what ucla is all about. That is why I decided to take 96 or 97 in the winter. I can’t wait to start! We may end up being classmates. What courses are you planning to take?

@cochoa14‌

I thought about taking History of France 1775 to 1871(Only a spot left, so I can kiss that goodbye, hope somebody can drop), also History of Russia, Origins to Rise of Muscovy(I really wanted this, but it is only a 10 seat class, and of course it is full). I have always wanted to focus on Russian history. Such a dark and treacherous country. Maybe,247A, Early American History. For electives, I looked at Indo-European Studies, Origins of Language looked good, but it’s closed. I really, do not know what to take, but I am on the hunt.

I think this is the consensus, but at the orientation there is absolutely no way to be finished with it by 7:00pm? Trying to plan my trip and I’m not sure if it’s best to drive to orientation and leave the day after, or come the day before and leave right after orientation is done.

Also, was it difficult in attaining PTE for a class with prerew

@jonjon03‌
Registration begins @ 7pm. It absolutely will not begin prior to that. Not everyone will start @7, some people won’t start until maybe 7:20. How long it takes is completely dependent on how prepared you are, whether your choices are still available, whether you have backups etc.

Best case scenario: I was in the group who started @7pm sharp. My classes were all still open, and I finished registration by 7:08-7:10. Then I had to complete their evaluation. I was out of the building at 7:15, but most people weren’t.

@Cochoa14 im on the fence about taking the 96w or 97 class in winter. I read a post on fb by a history transfer that it takes up a lot of time. That many of his fellow transfers had a hard time balancing out if they had a job. He recommended taking it in the winter

@2016Candles Thank you. That is what I assumed, really wished it ended earlier so I can drive back home after the orientation rather than a day later.
