I plan on bringing my laptop in my backpack. No way that I’m carrying that ■■■■ around all day.

Lol. Do they really make you guys leave your backpacks outside during lunch?

The backpacks they had out are flimsy nylon ones so I wouldn’t put my laptop in it.

There’s a LOT of walking. I had my tablet with me, which is obviously smaller and lighter, but it woulda been a drag to carry the laptop all day. BUT even in hindsight, I would have brought a laptop if I couldn’t bring a tablet.

Lunch is in the food court area, and you can have whatever you’d like with you including back packs.

I didn’t do dinner with the group do I don’t know how that went. Dinner was in the dining room in one of the resident halls, but I didn’t go.

@2016Candles

Well, they better have no problem with me bringing my laptop in my own backpack then. :)

Their backpack is mainly to carry all the crap they hand you within the first 5 minutes.

@2016Candles

Let me guess—brochures, papers about the school, the enrollment process, the orientation schedule, that sort of thing?

For dinner they won’t allow you to take your backpack. They have lockers outside of the dining hall where you can put your stuff.

@cochoa14 are the lockers free? For real though…Do they think were going to steal food?

@sonic23

Well, UCLA does have a theft problem on campus. I’m not even going to lie, they do. Maybe this is just a response to that issue.

Yes, they are free and easy to use. You need to come up with a 4 digit pin to lock and unlock the locker. Carrying a laptop for 11 hours sucks but in the end its useful.

My daughter brought her backpack and I just asked her- for dinner she did not go with the group to eat. She went to the new cafeteria that is the healthy place. She paid for it so didn’t use the voucher. She brought her backpack into the new healthy one.

Re lunch, she sat outside, but her NSA watched the backpacks. She only left it there because it was more convenient because she was in and out. She said she definitely saw ppl inside with them. She said she never had any issue with her backpack and brought it everywhere.

It doesn’t quite make sense that you would be forced to leave it as they have a theft problem and tell ppl to watch their stuff all the time.

@Cayton
It’s a novel, schedule, ucla handbook, crap, and crap. Oh yea, and crap!

Right - that Jackie Robinson bio that I expect you all to read!

I did hear it’s good, but still… If it were me :-SS

@sonic23, I carried my 17 inch laptop around all day and it wasn’t a pain at all. The walking isn’t that bad. It’s a long day though so bring water and maybe some snacks.

They give you a couple coupons as well. One is for 20% off entire 1st purchase of “bearwear.” The other for a free tall latte or cappuccino.

@Zalrons the walking is actually whats scaring me I usually walk from my car to the store and than back and thats my max. I know sad right, but I might as well get used to the walking

I kind of wish I had a tablet now but My macbook isn’t too heavy Ill survive

@sonic23 maybe there’s a locker you can rent.

This is probably something no one cares about save maybe a mom like me, but throwing it out there anyway. UCLA gives all incoming students that Jackie Robinson autobiography. So I’m thinking man that’s a lot of royalties coming in to someone. At first I thought it maybe had a UCLA imprint, but it is published by Harper-Collins. UCLA year after year is buying tens of thousands of this book. There must be some kind of huge financial reward for them. Maybe they get the royalties. It would be interesting to know the contractual set-up with the estate, Harper-Collins and UCLA. Talk about a best-seller artificially elevated, haha.

Not 100% sure, but I think it’s a different book every year.

It’s BS how the library closes at 5/6pm during the summer

Parking is horrible because now all the flood victims are taking up spots in my lot

People asking me if I speak English just because I’m not white pisses me off

It’s impossible to find dinner because everything closes at 5/6 except carl’s jr

/end rant
