The Official Fall 2014 UCLA Transfer Decisions Thread

Scandinavian, quite interesting. I am browsing around film and television. I am somewhat tired of looking right now lol, so I’ll look a little later. I’ve decided to wait to take either a 96 or 97 course till the next quarter, need a feel for the school before I jump in to a 3 hr course that’s also 5 units.

@Cayton‌ thanks a lot!
@lindyk8‌ I’m actually an English major, but thank you!

I think I finally found my elective! Italian 110, Dante in English… Maybe…

@sonic23‌
When do you guys get to move into your apt?

Quick question, is this the address to the 3rd lot? 215 Charles E Young Dr N University of California, Los Angeles, Los Angeles, CA 90024… Got orientation tmr, and was wondering if this is the correct address? TY

There’s an honors society, Tau Sigma, for transfer students who maintain a 3.5 first quarter:
Student Organizations | UCLA Student Organizations, Leadership & Engagement;

That’s very cool. I doubt I’ll make it in that :-(

@2016Candles‌

If you’re enrolled in three classes, 4 units each, you just need to get an A- in two of those classes and a B+ in one class to get the required GPA to be eligible to join.

It’s certainly doable.

Does anyone know what the difference is between units and points? Does points mean the same as units?

Provosts Honors list - UCLA:
The College (Letters & Science): requires a 3.75 GPA in any one quarter with at least 12 graded units and no grade of NP or I, … OR a 3.66 GPA and at least 16 grade points during the quarter, with no grade of NP or I.

The GPA is different for various colleges and is issued per term, so you have a fair # of chances.

I’m sure you can do it candles (Tau Sigma).

It’s doable. I’m just not feeling great about grades since I’m about to get an A- in a class I really worked hard in. Ignore my pessimism tonight.

@lindyk8‌

“Points” have to do with grades. An A gives you 4 points, a B gives you 3 points, and so on.

A- ??? That translates to an A. Tough break… :((

At CSUs an A- is an A-. It’s only worth 3.7, not 4.0.

More than anything it just makes me more nervous about ucla grades. I did fine last semester, but maybe 2 4-week classes while working F/T may have been too much :-(

So what does that second part mean @cayton? I’m not getting it…

You mean like 12 units:
Class 1 - A-
Class 2 -A-
Class 3 - A-
3.7 GPA

16 points:
3 classes = B = 9 points
2 class = A = 8 points
3.66 GPA

So you are essentially taking more classes?

I THINK what it’s saying is that if you have a 3.66, then you have to take at least 16 units for a letter grade, which basically means no classes that are pass or no pass. With the 3.75 you can have one class that’s pass or no pass.

@lindyk8‌

Now I’m confused, lol

Dammit UCLA clarify these things.

No I think that’s it. Another example:

4 courses, all four units
3 A = 12 pts
1 B = 3 pts
15 points (not 16 points)
so GPA must be 3.75…
And GPA is 3.75.

If a couple of the above courses were 5 units, the recalculation of points would probably hit 16 (??), so they would only need 3.66 GPA.

Am I overthinking this?

I thought that too @2016candles but @cayton is right, points refer to grades whereas units refer to time.

Way too confusing!!

After reading the requirements for the other schools like engineering and film, I think it’s honestly a typo. I think they meant to say 16 units, but it says 16 points.

“Arts & Architecture and Theater, Film, and Television: require 12 graded units per quarter with a GPA of 3.8 for less than 16 units of work (3.7 GPA for 16 or more units). You are ineligible if in any quarter you receive a Not Passed (NP) or Incomplete grade (I), change a grade or repeat a course.”

@2016candles 2 weeks! Im really excited getting everything packed up, and uhaul is rented :)
