The Official Fall 2014 UCLA Transfer Decisions Thread

I majored in English back in the day, @NationalMUSE‌ . We must be sympatico.

@cayton and @2016candles are also great helps - probably better than me. But I beat them to the punch. :)) :)) :)) :))

I see you’re rethinking the meal plan @cayton. ^#(^
I think it’s always better to start lower or I guess do the rollover, but maybe start at 14p. You can alter at anytime.

@linddyk8
Really? That’s awesome. It’s always a pleasure to me a fellow English major.

:bz

@lindyk8‌

Ah, I’ve seen people recommend that, but 19P seems so liberating! Eat anytime? Sure. Meal roll over? Yep. Lots of meals? Yep!

Ultimately, it isnt that big of a deal as you can change it anytime. But you’re limited to where you eat.

Be wary of the transfer 25. :@)

@lindyk8‌

I’ve alread sent in the request for 19P. :))

I got 14P. Even though the food is really good, I am pretty picky about certain things and get sick of eating the same type of stuff a lot. So I think it’ll work out, considering I tend to eat smaller snack type of meals and eat pretty clean (usually not over the summer though lol) so eating pizza and hamburgers buffet style isn’t my forte.

Also, regarding the electives, the choices were pretty bad IMO. But if you don’t have a class heavy major it might be ok. I just prefer to take major classes. I wanted to take a Film/TV class but they weren’t even listed. So I ended up taking something for my accounting minor, that will count to my major anyways.

@lindyk8‌

lol, our NSA said that the freshman 15 isn’t really a thing at UCLA because of all of the walking all over campus that you’re going to do. :)

@CSB111‌

Interesting. They do have a lot of healthy food, too.

@Cayton I figured I won’t always be wanting to eat at the dining halls, and it won’t be the most convenient thing sometimes, so I’ll have meals that’ll rollover. But I like you can get stuff like smoothies with a swipe as well. 19P is only like $250 more so if you know you’ll use it I’d go for it. If not, that is a Chipotle burrito once a week lol.

@NationalMUSE
I’m a sociology major. There’s no list of. Which majors restrict the number of major courses you can sign up for during orientation. It’s not in all the time thing - it’s just the restriction that we have for registering for first quarter. I managed to sneak into three sociology classes, but that’s just because I’m good at what I do :D

I’ve been awarded work-study as part of my financial aid offer and UCLA has started to post job openings for the upcoming academic year. How hard or easy is it to get a work-study position? Admittedly, I don’t have much work experience, so I’m kind of worried that I won’t get one, lol.

Also, Associated Students of UCLA(ASUCLA) will have a job fair for students right before the fall quarter starts. Do you guys think it’ll be easy to get a job with them if you have a work-study award?

Congrats on the work-study. I cannot answer, but they do focus on w-s before others can get in so I assume you will get something.

They’re not expecting an applicant pool of seasoned professionals :slight_smile: Present yourself well physically, verbally, and on paper. You should be fine :-)

Dressing properly is especially important! You should see some of the people who interview for my place. Otherwise stellar applicants who look like bums are not hired.

Thanks, @2016Candles @lindyk8 and @luckie1367. :)

Show them your involvement on College Confidential, haha!

And @luckie1367‌ you are so right. My daughter’s been at her job for about a year and a half and one reason they hired her is because she actually dressed up for the interview (within reason, of course). They actually told her that. It just creates a positive and it shows you are taking the job seriously.

(Of course I’m the one who told her to look nice. :-h )

We have some crappy ass interns in my office. I have no clue how they were hired, but if they can get hired I have no doubt that you can :-)

I was told the exact same thing at my job lindy! I wore some nice business pants and a blouse, nothing fancy! My interviewer said that there were strong applicants that for whatever reason showed up in jeans and t shirts.
