@luckie1367 yeah, it shows respect and it’s a little thing that can have a big payoff.

lmao That’s very encouraging, @2016Candles. Thanks. :P

@lindylk8 You’d think it’d be common sense to dress appropriately for the job(It does of course depend on what kind of job it is). I can’t believe people still make those kinds of interview mistakes.

Haha, I am female.

Its good to invest in a business casual outfit just in case of interviews or anything!

I officially just got an A- in my Social Psych class. I missed an A by .5 points. I had 446.5/475 points, but needed 447/475 for the A. I’m sooooo mad at myself right now :((

@2016Candles

I’m surprised your professor didn’t round up. An A- is a good start to your academic career at UCLA in my opinion.

In all fairness, he said from day 1 that his grading was not flexible. 94% was an A and 93.9999% was an A-. It would have been my 20th A in a row. But oh well! On to UCLA!! I’m sure I’ll have my share of Bs and A-'s. Hopefully nothing lower than that :-)

PS- I’m fully aware that I should be medicated :D

Don’t know about the resident meal plans, but for non-resident, it’s generally cheaper to pay as you go for meals instead of buying a meal plan.

These are the prices for non-resident meal plans

Non-Resident Blue 14 - $1,502.49
Non-Resident Cub 11 - $1,438.32
Non-Resident 5 - $574.00
Non-Resident 3 - $344.00

So you multiply the number of meals by 12 and you get the total number of meals. It comes out to $8.94 per meal at best if you get the most cost effective one, which is the 14 meals a week one. The rest are slightly higher (tops out at $10.89 for the 11 meals a week plan). Even with the most cost-effective plan, it seems like it’s only worth it if you’re eating dinner exclusively, since with no meal plan, just using BruinCard balance, dinners cost $9.50.

Here are the individual meal prices if you use your BruinCard balance
http://map.ais.ucla.edu/go/1003979

Wish I could do this with the meal plans for residents, but I don’t know exactly how much they cost. But since according to that website, paying with BruinCard balance is cheaper for residents, I’m going to assume the cheapest option is to get the lowest meal plan and then buy the rest of your meals. Unless you’re doing multiple swipes and I have no idea how that works.

UCLA grades with A/A-?
I thought only UCR did that.

I was taking summer school at my CSU. But I believe all CSUs and UCs use +/- system

I thought UCs did not use the +/-.

@lindyk8

UCLA does, at least. GPAs will be a lot harder to calculate once a student goes there, lol

I wonder when this thread is going to die. We already have more pages than last year’s thread, 100 more to be exact.

Here’s the ucla grading scale. Scroll down a little on the page.

http://www.registrar.ucla.edu/archive/catalog/1999_01/catalog-28.htm

@CollegeDropout1

Probably a few days before school starts. The UCB thread is presumably dead because school is starting for those students very soon.

I’m sure in about a month this thread will start to die. I think a lot of the conversations are because people are antsy about starting and excited about starting. So once people start moving into the dorms and moving into apartments and getting a feel for the campus, I think all of that nervous excited energy will start to die and so will this thread.

@Cayton That makes me really sad! All the other UC threads have disappeared for some reason. This thread is the last strong hold, and even we already lost a ton of other people for good.

@2016Candles

Definitely.

@CollegeDropout1

I’ll always be around, answering questions for Fall 2015 applicants. :)

Something I’ve noticed is that UCLA grossly overestimates the cost of textbooks in your financial aid letter. $1,599 in textbooks bought throughout the year? No ■■■■■■■ way.

That comes out to $533 in textbook spending each quarter. Looking at the prices of the books for my classes this quarter, I’ll be saving quite a bit of money.

@Cayton
All the costs are pretty lofty. Most people don’t realize it and end up taking out more loans. You can honestly avoid at least 5k in loans if you actually think it out from the book costs, transportation cost, “personal costs” and if you have cheaper dorms from what is budgeted.

Eating everyday is overrated, that is where I am going to make the most savings.
