The Official Fall 2014 UCLA Transfer Decisions Thread

I estimated $350 max for books per quarter hoping to spend less tho

I’ll be renting all my books so I hope to spend less than $100 per quarter.

Why doesn’t CC create a Cal State transfer forum? There is obviously a need for it. Why only a UC transfer page?

@sonic23‌

I doubt you’ll be spending more than $150-$200 on books in any given quarter, even if you’re exclusively buying brand new books from the bookstore.

@CollegeDropout1‌

There might not be enough demand. As it stands, prospective Cal State transfers post their questions in the general transfer forum.

Also, the process of transferring to a CSU is much more straightforward and the standards are somewhat lower, so there may be fewer people who are uncertain that they’ll successfully transfer to the CSU of their choice.

Is anyone getting a Den Pass?

@2016Candles This thread has been particularly popular, it nearly doubles the reply count of previous year I think <a href=“UCLA Transfer decisions out April 19th! - #2476 by HopingToXfer - UC Transfers - College Confidential Forums”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/uc-transfers/1473694-ucla-transfer-decisions-out-april-19th-p166.html</a> . I’m certain that this thread will die down sometime in October, but it had a great run while it lasted. Also, I am 50/50 on buying a Den Pass or not. Not really into watching sports, but it seems like an opportunity shouldn’t be missed.

Anyone else submit their IGETC? If so did you guys see any change on myucla and/or DAR? My counselor said sent it out to UCLA sometime earlier this month…and so far I have yet to see a change. I am concerned cause the deadline for igetc is just around the corner 9/1.

@jonjon03‌

It takes a while for it to process. I’m sure you’ll be fine. In addition, I’ve heard that UCLA is lenient about the deadline to have IGETC submitted to them.

Thanks Cayton, I guess all I can do is wait…but probably call tomorrow just to be safe. So it seems all we have left to do is to finish part two for AlcoholEdu, part two for Haven, wait for room mate announcement which is Aug. 28, and move in on Sept. 28.

Also regarding food. I haven’t tried this yet, but I’m thinking of getting a crock pot and experimenting. I heard those things are amazing at turning cheap ingredient food into something that’s good and hardy. Might not be an option for those who lives in dorms.

Random question, but does anyone know if can use the Wooden center yet, or do we have to pay our tuition/rec fee first? Thanks.

@uclammg‌

Hmm, maybe, maybe not. They’ll probably let you use it for a small fee if you haven’t paid tuition yet. I’d call the Wooden Center if they have a number and ask about that.

@jonjon03‌

Pretty much. Oh, and don’t forget about that “Think About It” course"; it’s due on the 1st of October.

And yeah, there’s no way I could use that “crock pot” in my dorm. UCLA food will have to suffice. :D

Just a quest. I was told FA and loans would be paid in Sept? Won’t that be cutting close to when we need to pay for our tuition?

@Tik1127‌

I’m worried about that, too. Financial aid should be disbursed some time before the due date, though. UCLA recommends that we do direct deposit to have our financial aid sent to us as quickly as possible.

When is tuition due? I heard we get FA distribution 10 days before quarter starts

@sonic23

Sept. 20, I think. Don’t quote me on that.

This for the loan as well , the sub and unsub loans? I haven’t heard nothing from em. Will that be late Sept?

Also one last thing, Cal Grant, I applied a bit late and I was told I do not have to apply anymore. Only thing I saw was when I applied and my GPA. So how will this work?

This is off topic but is nursing school harder than getting a BA or BS in any other subject or “regular” School?

@sonic23 I honestly have never understood how the hell nursing programs work. My neighbor couldn’t get into one in California and her parents are paying a bunch to go to one in Florida, and at my CC, there was some massive wait list for the “nursing program”, but you don’t even get your RN.

@sonic23 I just checked bruinbill and it is all dated to be due on 9/20 as Cayton mentioned. Also, I know I have received an email stating "your funds will disburse to your UCLA Student Account (ten days prior to the first day of classes) to pay your tuition and fees. Any balance will be refunded directly to you to help pay your other educational costs (room and board, books, supplies and personal expenses). " so you’re correct about getting FA 10 days prior. However, I’m not sure if they consider 10/2 or 9/29 as when the quarter starts…if it’s 10/2 I’m not sure how we can pay tuition on time, but I’m guessing it really won’t be an issue.

Is it normal to have a seven hour gap in between your classes? Because that is how make scheduled is going to look

@jonjon03‌

Instruction begins on October 2nd. The Fall quarter officially starts on Sept. 29, as you mentioned, so Sept. 19 is when they should pay for tuition and other fees.
