lol, I just found an off-campus work study opening…at my old community college. It’s for a writing tutor position. I hope I get this one. :D

I was just looking at the BruinBiill info on what and when I have to pay. I know these are just estimates, however, my question is for the fall reg, it states due date Aug 19… And it says payment 100 dollars. So, what exactly is this? I don’t recall paying for this not did I receive an email saying something was due. Thank you.

Yay Cayton! Don’t leave SMC!

What does your bruin bill say? Mine States all the charges but says my balance is -$K(the amour I am getting back from loans). And states my outstanding balance is zero

@tik1127 its the payment you submitted as a deposit when u SIRd

oh guys, did anyone’s housing assignment change from the original one? My original one was more expensive than my new one so how does that work out? How will I be refunded?

Few people on facebook said it changed. Call housing n ask they close at 4pm and ask detailed questions some of the peoplr just BS you to get you off the phone… i call a lot lol

Cant blame them i do that at work… i even tell people to call back cuz the system is down when im lazy. Or call back in an hour whrn im gone

Anyway call and ask

I just received the change of assignment email. It says I will be assigned to De Neve Gardenia/Holly (which was what I requested from the start). I previously had Sproul Landing/Cove.

Did you guys ask for a change, or did it just arbitrarily happen?

I heard on Facebook that they had so any transfers and freshmen living on campus, a lot of people got bumped from doubles to triples.

I also have a negative balance on my Bruin Bill. That’s what will be reimbursed to me. That along with my work study will be just about what I thought I needed.

Speaking of work study, I’ve been on a couple of interviews already. It’s been rough.

@lindyk8 I did not request a change.

I’ve been waiting for a financial aid appeal for months now, I call the guy who is handling it and he has never ever gotten back to after emails, calls, voicemails. I don’t want to accept anything yet until I know if it is going to go through.

Also, does anyone know if you didn’t use your Cal Grant at CC, would you get tuition covered for more than 2 years? This is what I was told but I’m not sure. Haven’t gotten a clear answer.

@RamonaFalls

When did you start applying for work-study jobs? Would you say it’d be hard to get one? Or is it that you should apply to a lot of jobs to get one?

I’m trying to get work-study myself, so I’m curious.

@CSB111
Is it normal for appeals to take that long? I’m going to submit an appeal myself, and they told me it takes like 3 weeks. Not to be all in your business, but if you don’t mind sharing, what’s the general nature if your request for an appeal?

@2016Candles I’ve been waiting on it since the beginning of May. I got an email in very early July requesting paperwork and went down there and turned it in a few days later at the financial aid office.

When I first got my aid, I was awarded $3000 or so more dollars. Simply put, there was a change that caused the income to go up. They wanted me to show the past years FAFSA to show it was a one time thing, and I did that, but like I said, still haven’t heard anything. They told me it should go through when I first asked about it back at Bruin Day.

@CSB111
Thanks for the info. Wow that’s a long azz time to be waiting. I hope you get it resolved ASAP!

@ramonafalls, Oh i see. Do you know HOW it will be reimbursed? And like @cayton I’m curious how your work study interviews went.

http://newsroom.ucla.edu/releases/washington-monthly-university-rankings:-ucla-is-the-nations-no-1-affordable-elite

UCLA is the #1 “affordable elite” school in the country, according to the Washington Monthly. I’m not sure I understand why, though. Harvard is just behind UCLA at #2 and they give a lot of money to poor students, much more than UCLA.

Off the top of my head I would say they’re calculating number of students getting aid vs. amount of money handed out.
