I got it, though my email is recruiting for MIAs in buildings I’m not even living in.

@k4201505.

Mine is for “rieber court” whatever that is. I will be living in RT so I’m guessing its near to where I’m staying. Are you going to do it?

@RamonaFalls You’ll be fine. The stuff from Calc 3 that is in Linear Algebra is basic and easy.

I took Calc 3 and LA at the same time almost a year after a terrible Calc 2 teacher and I had no problems and did fine. I was going to take 33B this quarter if I was going to change my major, but I’m holding off for a little while on that. I looked at the 33B past finals and it seemed pretty straight forward…

@cochoa14 I also got an email for rieber court MIA thing. I’m guessing they help set stuff up and check people in? idk i just signed up for it

Getting closer and closer to the start of Fall quarter I’m feeling a bit antsy which made start thinking of goals to set. Aside from typical academic goals are there anything else you guys would like to achieve at UCLA? One goal I would like to achieve is to study abroad (which I guess falls under academic goals), but I don’t think that is exactly realistic considering my age and time left at school.

@jonjon03

Eh, I just want to reach my intellectual potential at UCLA.

Actually study abroad would be a great new thread @jonjon03 !

It would be fun for summer, and they have scholarships, but it seems that the UCLA ones are connected with certain majors. It would be nice to start a compilation of programs, scholarships, and aid.

I’m not too far off feeling the same way Cayton, but at the same time I feel like I need to make most of this opportunity. One part of me wants to think just to get school over with as quickly as possible, but another part wants me to capitalize on this opportunity.

I believe there should be wealth of information regarding programs and scholarships lindyk8…but I don’t know where. I heard that UCLA does a decent job of emailing information out there (especially opportunity relating to major).

They do have a study abroad page here, but most are quarter or semester-based and few summer. There really isn’t much time to do a full fall, winter, or spring term.
http://ieo.ucla.edu/uceap

The summer at Cambridge University would be great if it wasn’t $15,000.

I want to secure a job, I’ve been applying for internships already, but I don’t think I’ll get anything to be honest, at least not now.

If I can’t get started good, then I might just take my sweet time, take a lot of different classes, and go from there. One part of me wants to get out ASAP and the other part says “why the heck am I rushing my life?”…I’ll be younger than most if I graduate in two years, it just seems so surreal.

I hear the internship race is cutthroat.

@lindyk8 Yeah, I don’t think my chances are very good. CC transfer + no UCLA GPA + limited experience (because of CC), my resume will pretty much go into the trash even if I have a unique story. I am applying for some program thru UCLA as well that is supposed to help you land one.

If you guys are into wild roller coasters the way our family is, here’s a simulation of the new Twisted Colossus at Magic Mountain (replacing the old wooden Colossus that just closed). It’s the longest hybrid roller coaster in the world. Set to open in 2015:

The apartment I moved into is older and smells like old people but once I got settled in I must admit that I love it. It’s so quiet I am not used to it but I’m sure once school starts I’ll love that.

Has any one purchased textbooks yet?? My professors still haven’t posted up what we need

@sonic23

I’ve assembled my cart of textbooks on Amazon but I haven’t completed the order yet.

And it’s possible that there may not be any required textbooks for your classes. I imagine upper-division history classes won’t require students to buy typical textbooks because those are usually better suited towards lower-division survey classes. I could be wrong, but I wouldn’t worry just yet.

this question has probably been answered but when are the cal grants supposed to go through and pay for our tuition?and where do we check?

@Peanut0

CSAC - Student Landing Home;

^Log in here, or create an account if you haven’t already. It’ll tell you if your cal-grant is ready to be disbursed or if there are additional requirements you need to satisfy first. Your cal grant, along with your other financial aid, will be disbursed later on this month. Sept. 20, I believe.

okay, thank you. I’m just worried about my tuition. I don’t want any last minute surprises about my money not going through. I tend to have bad luck with financial aid :/

I am going to study abroad for a full year next year. Its possible just don’t take no for an answer

Hey guys, I asked this in the FA section but didn’t get a respond. I was hoping somebody from the Bruin family can shed some light on it.

I had applied for the CalGrant in late April, April 23rd to be exact. I had missed the deadline for that term. I am reviewing the application status, I have the 2014-215 FAFSA or CA Dream Application Completed, there is the green check mark. I also have my GPA verified(3.83) from a previous college. I am a transfer student, will be attending UCLA next month. My application status is blank though. My question is, do I need to reapply for this? I was told, and I remember vaguely that another poster said that I would not have to, because in October it would be submitted? I am also wondering how this CalGrant works? And, if and when I do get approved, up to how much would expect to receive? If you need additional information, please ask. I am somewhat new to this. Thank you.
