@lindyk8 I honestly don’t want her entire future ruined cause of this, but at the same time what she did is pretty inexcusable. Also, who the names their kid Virginia? That’s a porn/stripper name if I ever heard one.

I haven’t tried yet, but are the den pass sold out? I was waiting till I had some money before I make the decision…now I do and I hear it’s sold out.

I agree with @jonjon03…I do believe in second chances, but hey, I’m not in a position of power, unlike those who do the hiring at hospitals and those who grant the degrees in medical school. Those people will not be forgiving and will make sure this person doesn’t advance in the medical world.

She shouldn’t have stolen it for moral reasons, but also because an iPad is not worth throwing away a career in medicine.

@jonjon03

“Virginia” might sound like a stripper name, but I guess it’s worth noting that one of the great authors in the canon of Western literature is named Virginia Woolf, who lived and died a long time ago. ;)

I’ve started doing stuff to get ready for UCLA. Starting today, I’m going to start waking up at the time I’ll need to to go to class. I’ve also plotted out a rough schedule of what I’ll be doing each day. Finally, I’ve started doing some of the readings for my classes. I’m so stoked.

I called about course reader pricing for a class since the price isn’t listed and they said they don’t know the prices until they are printed that day when you order them.

I’ve literally applied for 20 internships on BruinView over the past month and haven’t gotten a single response back. I wonder if this is normal lol…

@CollegeDropout1 I guess you could say “Finance”, but not really investment banks. Private Wealth Management, Consulting, Accounting…Just stuff to beef up my resume that is supposed to be relatively easy to land. I’ve been reaching out to work for free too and never get anything back. It freaks me out.

@CollegeDropout1 I probably will as my next line of defense. I just don’t really have any experience, and being a transfer without a GPA, I bet my resume goes into the trash.

@CSB111, I’m sorry to hear that. I totally understand your pain though. It’s a struggle. I applied for this internship that genuinely interested me. It wasn’t just informative, it was creative. I really really wanted it. I found out that the only reason I didn’t get it was because other qualified applicants applied before I did, even though I was never given a deadline. I never even got an interview, which was really unfair.

Anyways, have you tried the Jobs and Internships page on fb? Even though it’s more broad, the people who post DO respond back. I feel like the BruinView site is really for those who have already obtained a BA/BS degree.

And it also could be because of the quality of your resume. Try to make yourself seem better than you are LOL. At least that’s what I try to do.

@randombookie It truly is a crap shoot. I mean I haven’t even gotten confirmation emails. I even contacted the career counselor for my department a few times and never got a response. I’ve had people look over my resume and gotten the general consensus that it is pretty good, but I’m lacking experience, which is obviously why I’ll work for free! I looked at FB but I haven’t really seen anything…

I saw there are some career fairs this month, so I guess I could try and go down there. But once again, I have no UCLA GPA and pretty much have to put CC on my resume, so I pretty much would go to the bottom of the pile. Being on a 2 year timeline is really tough, you are pretty much thrown into school and at the same time have to somehow look for work experience and network. I keep wishing I would’ve went to somewhere after I graduated HS, I feel the money I saved is really not worth it in the grand scheme of things.

@CSB111 - In terms of your GPA, I think you need to just put whatever your cumulative gpa is (including CCC) and leave it at that. The UCs are some of the only schools that start your GPA over once you transfer, and most employers wouldn’t make that distinction. Most employers just want to know your total GPA. For example if you transferred to CSU Los Angeles, with a 3.9, CSUS consider your gpa to be 3.9 after you transfer. Employers don’t usually know the nuances of the transfer process.

If you’re ever asked to “defend” that decision, that means you at least got as far as an interview, so you’re making progress. Without a lot of work experience, your GPA is one if your biggest assets. When GPAs are left blank, the assumption is usually that it’s below 3.0.
