The Official Fall 2014 UCLA Transfer Decisions Thread

@CSB111 a follow up call might be a good idea to show that you are interested. Plus they can give you advice on how to improve your resume/cover letter

Having not seen what exactly is on your internship app, the fact that you have not started at UCLA and you found the internship on a UCLA page probably has major bearing on callback (I assume you have CCC listed). You’ll undoubtedly have a better response next quarter after you have some UCLA classes under your belt. I commend your pro-active approach out the gate, though - but you’re kind of behind the 8-ball at this point in time.

@2016Candles I figured once I get my UCLA GPA (hopefully it is good!), I will just take off CCC completely. I put my AA degree in Math, my GPA, graduating Magna Cum Laude all on there, plus the more ‘difficult’ courses on there for now. If not I will probably combine it or something.

@luckie1367 Good idea. I sent some follow up emails but a call might be more direct.

@lindyk8 That is what I am hoping. It is just that nearly all of the recruiting activities and programs happen during Fall. I applied for the College Fellows program and supposedly they do take transfers, so it’d be really great if I got selected for that.

@csb111 College Fellows Program. I like the sound of that. Will have to look it up. :>

@CSB111, I know what you mean. I think you should volunteer/intern somewhere that is not too competitive, allowing you to put something on your resume. And are you sure you didn’t do something at your time at cc? Put it in even if it doesn’t seem so “great.” Like 2016candles said, your GPA is your BOON. I assume it’s high and that will help you. People can’t blame you for not having had a class at ucla yet.

It does suck that we get less time. I think it’s somewhat fair tho. We get what we paid for. We saved money by going to cc but we lose out on our time at UCLA and the networking and experience and whatnot. 4 year students lose money but gain on the latter. You can always spend an extra year (if you think the pros outweigh the cons).

So I’m planning on taking 16 units and doing ten hours of work study. Does that see doable? Or is it a disaster waiting to happen?

@CollegeDropout1‌

In your first quarter…maybe.

I guess it depends on the rigor of the classes.

@Collegedropout1, seems a bit hard tbh but everyone is different. I think you know yourself best. If you think you can do it, then do it :slight_smile: For me, I wouldn’t just bc I want to adjust and try to get As lol

@randombookie I definitely I have some experience on my resume from when I was at CC. I worked with an accountant and then later I interned with a financial advisor. I put an entrepreneurial venture on there too. I guess I’ll just wait it out and see what happens. If I don’t hear anything I’ll make some changes.

Did anyone go to Transfer Transitions last Friday? D signed up for this Friday’s but can’t attend now.

I just checked my bruinbill and my anticipated financial aid part is missing. Should I be concerned? I have no means to pay for UCLA at the moment if my financial aid is missing, and I have not received any email regarding a cancellation of financial aid. Anyone on here missing their “anticipated financial aid” section in their bruin bill?

@jonjon03 The same thing happened to me. But many people on facebook were also having the same problem, so I’m not going to be too worried.

@24luke16 Good to know that I’m not alone, gonna call just to make sure. There is no way I can muster up the money required for tuition in 2 days.

I’m experiencing that too, @jonjon03.

FA is having a glitch, and it should be resolved within 24 hours. I think just about everyone using FA is affected.

Thanks @2016Candles , at least I can ease up at the moment and check tomorrow. Less than 10 days till moving in…and I still haven’t packed anything.

i am so confused about FA. How can I use my grants to pay for registration fees or is it already factored in?

@randombookie‌

Well, UCLA automatically pays your fees with those grants and gives you what’s left as a refund. Does that answer your question?

@Cayton, sort of? So my registration fees on my Bruin Bill are already reduced (bc of the grants)?
