The Official Fall 2014 UCLA Transfer Decisions Thread

@tinydancer13‌

I move in on Saturday. You?

There are quite a few events going on at UCLA during the week before classes start. They look interesting, and a comprehensive list of them can be found at truebruinwelcome.ucla.edu

@Cayton‌
I’m making the move on Thursday.

I just finished moving into my dorm, they’re very nice!
I can’t believe our break is almost over, but it’s about time to get our school year started!!

I thought first move-in days were Thursday?

@lindyk8 They are, but the dorms had sign-ups to become a move-in assistant. And you get paid by getting to move in today and getting some free meals for these couple days

Nice. You got first choice on bed!!

might be a dumb question
but do you think we need to print our syllabus? From the online website?
at my CC most teachers passed them out but others just referenced Moodle or other sites

@24luke16‌

Hmm…

Since you’ll be dorming in Rieber Terrace, I assume you’ll be helping other people move in to Rieber Terrace. If so, there’s a good chance you’ll be helping me move my stuff into my dorm on Saturday, lol

@lindyk8 Yes haha that was kinda why I signed up. I have to enjoy the floor being so quiet, I’m the only person here.

@Cayton Yup i’ll probably be helping you, but it’s fairly easy. They have these rolling bins you can rent that can fit most of your stuff inside, the hardest part is probably just rolling it around

@24luke16‌

Yeah, I saw some videos of the move in from last year on UCLA’s youtube channel. I can see why they say that moving in at UCLA doesn’t take very long.

Would it be smart to add a backup class? Just in case I don’t like my elective?
I used to do it at CC all the time and half the time I would end up taking the back up instead of my planned course

@sonic23‌
I would say yes. You never know what you’ll end up liking. 2 of my 4 classes don’t have syllabi available yet, so I have no idea what I’ve gotten myself into. Options are great.

Just make sure you drop the unwanted class in time. I THINK Impacted classes have an earlier drop date than non-impacted ones.

@sonic23‌

Sure. The only problem that could occur is that UCLA was kind of anal about having new students enroll in only 3 classes at orientation. Having a 4th one may not be immediately noticed by the school, but they eventually may have to have…a talk with you.

@sonic23 Sounds like a sound plan, but be sure to drop the class fast if it doesn’t fit you. I remember the drop dead line was like 1~2 weeks for impacted classes.

Anyone expecting a bruindirect refund? Just saw my bruinbill post that a refund was submitted today, but my bank account doesn’t show the amount.

@jonjon03‌

The financial aid website said that you’ll receive your refund in your account 6 days after your financial aid has been disbursed to your registration fees, so I’m guessing early next week. Annoying, I know.

I signed up for another class just in case. I just feel like 3 classes is barely anything. I’d rather be busy with an extra class then just being down at 11am everyday.

@cayton That is annoying, I just read somewhere 9/22 so that’s when I guessed it will pop up on my account (seeing that it’s a direct deposit). Thanks

Speaking of FA, I still look at my Bruin Bill, it still states anticipated FA but if am not sure if it hasn’t been paid out. My bill is still zero, so, just wondering when the next step is?

@jonjon03‌

I appear to have been wrong. UCLA has deposited the money into my bank account. That was fast…

You should check your account to see if UCLA put money in it.

@cayton Yup, just checked. First thing is to actually pay for the housing fees now. Funny how they took the tuition and other costs out automatically but not the housing. Thanks for the heads up.

Side note, making a payment by debit card through bruinbill seems to have 2.75% charge without ceiling. That seems a bit excessive.

edit Never mind, it seems if I pay straight from checking it incurs no charge.
