The Official M10 2019 Freakout Thread

Oooh!!! Good luck!!!

thanks (again)!!

You’ll get in, your EC’s are brilliant.

I’m gonna ask my dad if he can buy that BBQ sauce that’s your profile picture, it looks good

Just realized that it’s a BBQ sauce lol. I always thought it was protein powder or something. Good luck!!

@lightningqueen12 Wow, thank you so much!! I hope the AOs think so too!
@sparkatzz Thank you!! I hate protein powders. Blehh

I’ve been anxiously browsing the schools’ social medias. One of Andover’s admissions officers keep hers very active and I’ve been scrolling very far back…

On a side note, last night I discovered this video on Youtube from an Exeter grad who made it for a film class. It’s hard to explain it and it’s pretty long, but you already know I watched the whole thing  I’m not sure if it’s allowed (just wanted to check with @skieurope), but here’s the link : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N3sIOE_dbWQ

@ilovechoateeeee Good luck!!! I am sure you will get some good results from some schools.

Maybe you have said it somewhere but I missed the information, about the admission decision timing among the schools you applied. If some of the day schools will send out admissions this week, how much time do you have to make a decision? Would that be enough for you to wait for those coming out at M9? In our area, private day schools only give one week of decision-making time.

@Stillwater0808 Thank you! Well, my chances of getting into Choate are very slim because I’m Chinese, so IF I do get into Horace Mann or Riverdale, I’m going to accept it. I’m not sure but I think they also only give one week to decide, but I’m sure if you ask the schools they will say yes because probably many of their students are also applying to boarding schools.

@ilovechoateeeee Also, Choate is just a very selective school :)) I was wondering about this as well though; do you know if Choate has some sort of predetermined slots that they have to fill? For example, maybe they have x amount of spots for different races. I think it’s a really interesting topic, especially with the whole Harvard trials going on.

@livelaughxc Haha well, I’m probably not the best person to ask because I’m not an AO  I feel like they do though. Choate is definitely not the only school that does this

I don’t think they have quotas by races. But I’m sure they give the children of alumni and siblings some preference, as long as they are qualified… and then they might be looking for specific skills if their only tuba player or lacross goalie is about to graduate, for example.

Hopefully they need someone who is very active in community service this year!

Unrelated but does anyone else also have a snow day tomorrow? I just got a call from my school. SOOO HAPPYYYY

@ilovechoateeeee NY people can’t handle bad weather, SMH…

Just kidding. We delayed today, most people think we’ll delay tomorrow due to icy rain but seeing as it’s going to be 40 degrees by school I don’t think I will

Concord Academy is closing at 1:00 pm today.

I was right! I didn’t delay–I cancelled!

Does anyone know how the admission process at BS schools works? Now in mid-February are they done with the sorting of applications into yes/no/maybe piles? Have they started group reviews? Are they looking into FA? I saw a long time ago on another thread a youtube video that explained a bit of this but have been unable to find it since.

Andover started the process January 20th.

I’m pretty sure none of us can say for sure because we aren’t AOs. But, there is this thread ( http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/prep-school-admissions/1077227-prep-school-admission-process.html#latest ) that talks about it

@ReluctantDad I remember asking this question during my interview last application cycle (2017-18). I can’t remember everything the AO said, but here’s what I do remember. Your AO first personally goes through the application, and gives you a number on how likely you are to be admitted. The same process is repeated with several other AO’s, and finally it is presented in front of a committee that ultimately votes on acceptance/waitlist/reject.
