Alright here I go, writing movie reviews…good idea, lets see what happens! Also…TV Show reviews!

@MindHunter: I do remember a DHA Roots team there, it was the GIKI Sceince fair…of 2008! Long time ago, february, I think, but it was totally worth it…in the sense that it made me realize this is NOT the place to be The whole bullying, laid back and booring culture was just, ugh! And the faculty…wasn’t even good! Wow, I think I should start writing Campus reviews as well :)

Hey, I know it sounds wierd, but Customer Sales Reps…what are they like? I think they might be better than Call Centers, huh Game?

Hey everyone…there is something bothering me

Whats wrong with LUMS SSE? I mean, what’s the downside? What’s the ‘catch’? Why does the board (especiallly Game) hate it? I checked out their faculty and lo and behold it was all awesome…the guy interviewing me was SB and MS from MIT, including research…and the other one was from Oxford I believe…and then all the rest were more or less the same (as on the website), and whats more, this interviewer actually lived on campus. As far as the building and the facilities are concerned, they were brilliant…the labs they are making/have made were great! So, what, if any, is a person going to SSE missing out? From the above description it certainly seems to be THE place! Any help please?

@ Flibb…
ya boi…GIKI is not the place to be there… and about SSE Lums, I have my interview tom. lets c. but ya, I have heard of their faculty being from MIT, Caltech, Imperial, Stanford, Oxford, etc. Lets c.

Spot on Zapoo…just because its in Pakistan, and thus all the Stan, MIT, Caltech, Oxford, Imperial, Cornell, Princeton, Penn and others faculty can go to hell…are we that lame?

its very new…i guess the “uncertainty” is an issue with some people
i mean things like
A will grads get goog jobs
B will the faculty stay
C will the school mange to saty afloat-there have been some financial issues

What i think is…there is no exact defining reason. The reasons are manifold…

LUMS SSE is the new thing on the block. This year will be their second batch. Regardless of how good their faculty/resources are, it’ll take it time to cement itself as a force to be reckoned with in Asia and the rest of the world. As of now, there is a paucity of majors available at SSE,which is understandable, which sort of limits what you want to do. So what most people think (in my view) is that, why take a chance, If you CAN get in somewhere reputable, then dont let go of the chance.

Another reason is the experience thing. People prefer to go “abroad” because for most of them it’s an eye-opener. There is loads of stuff you’ll learn away from home which you wouldnt, if you studied here in Pakistan. Stuff such as paying the bills, campus jobs, even doing your own laundry.

In addition, there is the job market factor. LUMS SSE degree is currently only good for Pakistan. Not, good… it’s the best in Pakistan. But the key words in there are, 'in Pakistan’. Anywhere else, and you dont stand a chance. Unknown in the rankings and all that.

So that’s my pretty pathetic two pence. LUMS SSE is really a wonderful place to study from what i’ve heard. But through no real fault of it’s own, it lags behind in certain aspects.

lol
its some thing like godfather except its a five minute scene from the last guy ritchie movie
it may answer the question…i dunno i was sorta kidding
the junkie does claim at the beginning of the scene that he will answer all life’s questions

because the tree of liberty must be cropped from time to time with the blood of youtube videoes
where all good quotes when you most need them huh?
PS
mayb the answer lies with Schumann

I am sorry khan but how can you ask me to put into words a movie scene…the reference to schumann is merely a guess at why its so powerful (one of his piece plays in the background )
the tree of liberty … Ben feranklin just altered it a little
and i get carried away again

You see, most of what I wrote down on my post came from a chit chat I was having the other day with a Daily News Editor. Might not apply to Dawn and the the others - we’ll see. The least we ALL can do is try. Failure is not an option, fortune favors the brave. And the free ;)

Hmm you’re right Game…I’ll definitely have to look into all options, especially as I am planning to continue some long over-due gym work :)

Oh, I wish Elastine could tell us something about his work at Dawn!

Anyhoo, is it true, Game, that you are intentionally overlooking my question? :D

So I thought long and hard about the pressing question, and finally arrived at answers of my own. I’m not so concerned as to why people choose it over abroad, I was asking about how the end product will be different. Here it is. I don’t think that doing laundry in the LUMS dorm laundry room will be any different than doing it in, say, the Middlebury laundry rooms…nor do I think I will be paying any ‘bills’ at either campuses. The final answer comes to exposure. Here at LUMS I won’t be presenting my projects at a major chemical conference in Cali, I won’t be meeting people from the world over in the summer I’ll be spending in Italy, I won’t be immersed into Job environments at major RESEARCH/Sceintific internship but instead be taking up management internships (check out the PnG internship program, the poor GIKI BE bloke was a CSR), I won’t be meeting people from other campuses, and sharing ideas with them, and participating in myriads of other international engineering competitions, industry funded research projects and other such experiences. I would be only aware of what’s going on the world over, but would not be experiencing it hands-on. That is it. I don’t think that Campus Jobs will make THE significant impact on my life, or serve as the eye opener, which could not be done by any other job/internship while here at LUMS. And that is my $0.02 !

What do you guys say? Isn’t this a better explanation for not choosing LUMS?
