Transferring into the Production or Writing programs is generally considered to be a difficult process, not because the school makes it difficult but because there is a lot of competition for transfer spots (a lot of people chose to go to Community College then transfer into USC). The film minor however is a very popular option and while it is competitive, it is very much accessible to people from all sorts of majors. There are classes offered by the School of Cinematic Arts that are for non-majors/minors. There aren’t many but you can take those.

Transferring from within a school is always easier than outside of one. If you go to USC you can start making connections within the SCA that will help you transfer into it later.

A couple notes:

Last year, the first CC’er to get accepted to undergrad production recieved his acceptance on March 21st, which is the equivalent of this Friday, March 20th this year. I’m pretty sure the kid was OOS, so that means, mail sent out yesterday is probably a good sign. PROBABLY.

Another interesting tidbit- Another production applicant (with VERY similar stats to me) also recieved the 3/17 update with the “adcom” message. Anyway, good luck everyone!

roar2112- Hey there, yeah I’m east coast so if somethings on its way, it’ll be a couple days from when they sent it. My general stats are as follows:

GPA u/w: 4.00
GPA w: 4.66
SAT: 2120
ACT: 31
APs: 7 (two 5’s, one 4…the rest are this year)
Honors: Every class I’ve taken except for the AP’s and one elective a year

Besides that, everything is pretty much subjective, especially for the film application. I’ll let you guys know if anything comes in the mail.

That’s pretty beast compared to me. I’m in NorCal so I’d know a day or three before you if they’re all released together. My GPA is a 3.1 with just a couple APs. I think my strengths are extracurriculars though, such as rowing (my entire life), journalism, and orchestra. My focus is sound. I know someone who used to teach there and he let me record some sound for a film coming up this summer and wrote a rec letter. For the second sample I wrote about a burrito. We’ll see what happens. Keep ya’ll posted.

roar2112- I have some decent extracurriculars that might have helped (heck, I don’t even know if I’m in yet…I hope that i am though). I’m also into journalism-- I’m the Editor-in-Chief of my school newspaper, but my only other passion would be filmmaking. My focus would be directing (however, I also like to write.) Anyway, good luck! Keep us posted.

So does oasis have any helpful information? the above poster mentioned it.

Everyone can access an Oasis page I believe. It is the financial aid website where you can download all the forms to fax etc. The link on your status simply points to your Oasis page (you have to open a separate account however). The link says “Click here to see status of recent documents.” I remember when I first got the link it didn’t point anywhere, now it just shows a checklist of all the documents (SAT scores, transcripts, etc.) I’ve submitted.

When I got accepted back in January for the scholarship round this is what happened:
1/23/09 - Status change to “being reviewed by adcons”
1/24/09 - Oasis link appeared, doesn’t point anywhere
1/26/09 - Acceptance received (this was a Monday, the letter was stamped 1/23 and people in California first received their acceptances on Saturday 1/24)
About a week later I got a letter from the School of Cinematic Arts accepting me into Production.

I’m not saying this is exactly how everyone will be admitted but this is how it went down for everyone who got in during the scholarship round. Interpret this information at your own risk.

I’m getting really curious about the admission decisions. That’s something I’d like to be involved with someday. It seems an odd task to rate and judge with only such a slight resource base, but I guess that’s all they get.
