That’s what I thought! ha ha ha.

I’ll see. I really will.

in the end, I think it’s the master’s degree that did it for him. FYI I might be a bit off on his year of graduation, but I know it was close to it, he went there right after UCI opened… then he failed out, went to orange coast college AND coastline community college loading up on an incredulous amount of courses and Aced them all and transferred over within a year. Something crazy, which can’t really be done anymore.

And FYI, I’m not discrediting the value of a good degree. I’m discrediting the value of an insane bachelor’s degree when you intend to go for a masters degree.
seriously, no employer really gives a **** where you get your baccalaureate after you get your Master’s. For me saving 10k a year in undergrad for use in grad school makes sense.

I still firmly believe that the individual matters more than the institution they graduated from. A top 5% student from UCI will likely be earning more than a bottom 5% student at UCB over the course of his life. It probably helps that the top 5% student will also have gone onto grad school, but that’s another story.

so in the end, it really depends on what you do as an individual. Let’s say you don’t get into Cal or LA and you’re stuck choosing between SD, D, SB and I. I really don’t think it’ll make that much of a difference to you overall. There’s a thread here where people are debating the merits of Cal vs. La and the consensus is that even though LA is lower that you can’t go wrong either way… guess what, SD is roughly the same distance from LA in most areas of scoring. In the end, life is what you make of it. The person who went the extra mile(and then some) will likely have better luck in life.

please, tell me if I’m wrong, tell me if I’m crazy. This is what I’ve had told to me for ages. Step brother with a master’s from NYU and a BS from Vanderbilt is telling this to me… BOTH uncles are telling it to me. College professors are telling it to me. The only ones who seem to be saying to the contrary are those here. Back it up, provide charts and statistics. Compare the top students at other tier1 universities to the average student at the creme de le creme. I really want to see. Prove me wrong, it might motivate me to try harder to get into a better grad school (I’m thinking UCSD for econ, and FYI SD is on par with LA in that case, or SLO for an MBA)

ah true k. then undergrad has very little impact on you then. my bad. i intend on going to grad school as well so… moot point. UCI is a fine choice then.

and yeah, employers look at last education, not prior.

as for the individual mattering more, it’s a factor as well, but how many people from B compared to I will wow interviewers. someone from haas probably has the attitude from being around all the competition.

once again, i never bashed the individuals. that is always a factor seeing as how the interviewer is hiring a person based on their individual ability rather than what school they came from. but the fact remains that a better school = more opportunities. i have no qualms with you about the individual, but employers look at the resume before the interview. school will get you in the door, you dictate your own success after that.

For those who want to know what I want out of life.

reasonable and steady job. I don’t need the highest pay, I need stability and I’ll sacrifice overall income for said stability.

3-6 houses, which I will rent out. Substitute two houses for a piece of commercial real estate as necessary.

and the ability to retire at age 50 in good physical and mental health while living a comfortable, but not luxurious, middle class lifestyle.

and I’m not too worried about my prospects. All I have to do is outlive my father and I’m already there assuming he doesn’t **** away my trust fund. BUT, I would much rather earn it on my own. If I fail, I fail, but I’ll succeed if I damned well can. In conclusion, I want to outdo my father. That is all. I don’t care if I never get a 7 figure salary. I don’t care if I’m not THE best at everything, all I want is stability, a little comfort and a bit of happiness in my life.

So, I’ll take my master’s degree and I’ll compete against UCB undergraduates for the same jobs(but with myself asking for more pay) if I have to. For me though, I want to live in coastal socal. I don’t intend on moving if I don’t have to. Coastal socal favors SB, I and SD a bit more than the nation on the whole does. I’m fine with this, it’s acceptable to me.

college confidential cares

trust fund babies FTW.

my dad was a senior vice president of a huge advertising company. what are the chances i have a trust fund

indeed. Hey, I’m not complaining. I have my pride, everyone here knows that. I pay for my own ****, I’ve worked full time since the age of 16 - while in highschool. And yes, that’s illegal hahahaha. Well for my employer at least. Growing up, I passed up p[laying with friends because my parents wanted me to work on rental units which were vacant. Sorry, can’t play, have to paint a kitchen and lay tile that some good for nothing tenant f’ed up out of spite after getting evicted…

and I’ll be blunt, I heard most of my life that I’d get no help paying for college. The only reason I’m able to get by on a single part time job now is because of the whole realestate boom. My family cashed out rather close to the peak. I am blessed. It was dumb luck.

and for the record, my trust fund is likely a fair deal smaller than Fenris’

Wow, this thread was once entertaining and funny. What the hell happened?

pages 47-49

Ha ha. Thanks for clarifying. :D

I try, I really do.

on an unrelated subject, I haven’t been eating so much the last month and I lost 10lbs. I’m amazed at how cut up my arms got, I can see striations. I mean I could before, but not like now. Kind of miss the strength though, I need to hit the gym and eat like a beast so I can go back to my old self.

no xelink i wasn’t trying to be sarcastic. i really don’t know if i have a trust fund

hahaha. well I know I have one, I’ve been told I do and that I’m the sole inheritor. It’s a small fortune. Nothing insane of phenomenal, but it’s enough that, if properly managed, I could lead a decent life merely living off it’s dividends.

I’m not counting on ANYTHING until it happens though, I’m risk adverse.

Awwww xelink and frenis you are like the guys that fight with each other when they first meet, but then become the best of friends because of the fighting. Next step: ass-slaps of encouragement.

that happens to me so much

also butt sex.

it’s not gay if balls don’t touch though.

Curious: how do you avoid touching balls, especially if it’s warm out?

http://i712.■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■/albums/ww130/unfringed/balls-they-are-touching.jpg

@ evan: Seriously, this thread went totally awry lol.

@ xelink: Oh well, when employers evaluate your resume, your individual talents/capabilities will matter. The school you graduate from will also be important. I’m not talking about USNWR rankings, but the quality of your individual department. If you feel more confident that you will excel at UCI over UCB, as I believe you stated earlier, then go for it!

We need to get back to the love on this thread though…Who’s with me?! lol. I know evan and AJ are! What to talk about…

How about: Who’s on spring break right now? Mine just started today :)!
