so anthropologists can be hot swimsuit models.

well we’d need to see a picture of that to see if it’s swimsuit model type.

@LogicWarior I wouldn’t debate the net utility of economics – it’s obviously beneficial. We might be able to agree that engineering, as a discipline, has helped more people than economics – that’s all that I said or was trying to say.

I’m unwilling to get into a nuanced debate about quantitative vs. qualitative economics (I’d get bored and really don’t have a big dog in this fight), but there are economists, some of whom are Nobel recipients, that don’t think quantitative economics is effective or ever can be given the assumptions necessary to express things as subjective as value and motivation quantitatively.

I would never try to dissuade someone from an academic pursuit; I was sloppily giving an opinion to someone that seemed confused, not formally judging the value of economics as a discipline. When I was writing it, I was actually trying to posit reasons why the average income of an engineer exceeds that of an economist, and my response is what I came up with. Maybe you have a different theory.

Above all, I didn’t mean to offend someone with an academic interest in economics because economics is far more useful than 10s of things I’m interested in.

heyyyy! engineers are not ugly! what the hell
ps. employment at A&F is absolutely not indicative of attractiveness(which is extremely subjective btw).

with that said…Engineers are NOT UGLY :(

Wait, so how many classes in a quarter system is required to get 90?

goddamn he is smoking…look at that smoldering stare:

I miss being at home where I can post on this thread more often :)

But alas, here I am in san francisco, lying in a hotel bed for the last night of my trip. Just visited Berkeley today and I have to say, I have a lot of questions for you guys. I’ll probably make my own thread when I get back home, cause I wanna talk about these things in detail. Though I do wanna ask real quick right now. Basically though, I think I like Davis more than Berkeley. A couple things bother me about that though.

First off,
Is Berkeley good about letting you change your major?? Compared to davis maybe? I’m going in as anthropology, but I may change it. Another related question - what happens if I go in as Anthropology, and then I want to double major with engineering? Is that possible?

Second big question:

Does the 3.0 tag req. For davis hurt davis’s future?? As in will davis never become as prestigious as berk because It let’s 3.0 people in? Frankly, even though I like Davis more, I feel like going there would be a waste of my college work at my cc. I got a 3.8 at my cc, which will probably help me get into Berkeley, but then if I go to Davis I could have just skated by with a 3.0, right? That really bugs me for some reason. Also, I know Berkeley has a better anthro program.

K if u can give me a short answer on this now itd put my mind at rest a little bit, thanks guys.

PS: I’ve got abs you could scrub ur dirty clothes off of (washboard abs…its a phrase…:P). +1 for Anthropologists hahaha

Yes anthropology!

solidblu- don’t switch majors!!! we need u on our team <3

but don’t feel bad about the whole 3.0 Davis thing, you worked hard and you got a 3.8. sure they allow students a TAG but so does UCSD and they are ranked higher.
if you will be sticking to Anthropology, Berkeley and UCLA trump all other UCs. Then its between UCSB and UCSD for anthro.

But I’m telling you I’m in love with davis, dangit! Haha I didn’t apply to sd and I don’t like sb! (I don’t like sd either, obviously).

I’m guessing ucd has like barely anything at all resembling an anthropology department, am I right? I really like the place.

And don’t worry I won’t leave the major I do love it so haha but I do wanna double up though :)

i can’t answer the first question, but the second question’s answer is almost definitely a no. you can simply look at ucsd which is proof that a university can rise in “prestige” despite offering a TAG agreement, and ucsd has risen enough that it’s slowly beginning to take majors out of the TAG agreement which will probably help it even more in the future, the same thing can possibly also happen to davis, though unfortunately, probably not that soon as in while you’re still there…

solidblu- at least ur heart is telling u something, so what if Davis doesn’t have an established anthropology program, it is part of the University of California system. so one day it will be up with the rest of them given there are more students like you who are stellar.
go where makes you happy, at least you are fortunate enough to know and are not conflicted.
my heart wants too many things :(

Can I vote for the anthropologists?

Kernl is gonna be kinda scarce on here for the next 2 weeks, guys! I leave in 8 hours for some good ol’ Army training in Utah… glad I have REALLY understanding professors and a laptop with wi-fi! Ah, what did we do before wi-fi! But I’m going to be really busy juggling the training and my 18 units, so I’ll be sure to see you guys on the 23rd… or I might have to have a “guilty pleasure” login to see if anything big has occurred!

You all stay classy and good luck! The wait is almost over for the big 2!!!

Colonel Sanders :)

awww Colonel Sanders ur my girl, imma miss u
i wish you the best, stay hydrated and kick the boys butts!
take care :)

Good luck sanders.

good luck kernl!

@ solidblu, if you feel davis is a better fit then I’d say go! It’s not always about the prestige. And, if you were saying how in love with UC Merced then I’d be worried.

You guys, I’m sick of waiting to hear back from every UC I applied to, so I think I’ll go to DeVry instead.
