The Official UCB Fall of 2014 Decisions Thread

Sup G,
It was pretty good. I took a flight out the morning prior and stayed a night at the dorms (unit 3). That day: a group of us hiked up the big C and saw the sunset over the bay, which was beautiful, and then we explored the city. I made quite a few friends. The actual orientation was pretty well put-together. YMMV slightly based on who your CalSO leader is, but for the most part, it was well rehearsed. You also get to sit down with your major advisers and plan out your class schedule, as well as actually register for up to the first 10 units. My major only had like 4 transfers total attending today, so it was super cool and laid back, and I got acquainted with the department. I also took a workshop on undergrad research, which was pretty informative.

Hey @Freetofly112 What things are one absolutely required to bring?

@Freetofly112‌ So lucky your CalSO date only had 4 transfer in your major. Did you sat down with the psychology department or philosophy department? Cause I remember you said you wanted to major in philosophy.

They opened up extra sections for upper div Poli sci classes which was what I was hoping for! I got around wait list position 10 in two classes

@hairlesscow Poli sci is capped right? As you have not yet declared, you did not ran into any barriers registering for upper division polisci classes?

@hairlesscow what upper div poli sci courses are you interested in?

@Freetofly112‌

That’s awesome! Now I’m excited for my orientation.

Hope to see you around campus this fall, even though we’ll never know we talked on CC :stuck_out_tongue: lol

@nichtszumachen Bring both warm clothes, and not so warm clothes. When I went, I had brought a jacket and jeans, but I actually never used either because it was so hot there (uncommonly hot, actually). I ended up buying shorts because I couldn’t stand walking around in the heat. But weather can be unpredictable there. If you are staying overnight the day before, bring all the normal stuff: toothbrush, soap, shampoo (if you plan on showering). They’ll provide you with towels and bedding and stuff so dont worry about that. Also bring some cash and explore some of the city / food options. OH and comfortable shoes! You are going to be walking a lot. Other than that you don’t really have to bring much of anything. Make sure you have a government issued picture ID so you can get your Cal 1 card. They didn’t let me have mine because I didnt have my ID on me at the time. Also, have a general idea of what classes you want to Phase 1 for, although it might change once you consult your major adviser.

@oongaboonga I sat down with Philosophy. I’ve pretty much dropped Psych at this point, despite having finished all the pre-requisites. From what I could tell, there were a lot more Psych majors though. Kind of jealous of the girl to guy ratio in that major actually.

@ocnative hahah yep! we’ll be walking by each other and we wont even know it

@oongaboonga Poli sci is not a major that is capped (although I think it should be…) ls-advise.berkeley.edu/pyyac/nonigetc/capped.html
It seems like only Poli sci majors have a shot at registering for upper div Poli sci classes. When you get to the advising stage of calso, the advisors will give you a list of which Poli sci classes with sections which have open waitlists. An example of a class that juniors have no chance of getting is dan schnur’s campaign strategies class.

@nichtszumachen the two classes i got were 143a and 147g (both of which are not in very high demand for Poli sci majors)

@hairlesscow so did they only have waitlist spots or actual seats saved for transfers?
Did they mention if it is hard to get in classes once on wait list?

@Freetofly112‌ how was the room situation? Could you come and go as you please? Did you have a roomate?

@ocnative‌ when is your orientation?

Sup @TheUnderdog1‌

My orientation is on June 23. How about yours?

@TheUnderdog1 yeah I’m pretty sure they said thy opened up extra discussion sections. When I registered for one of my classes there were 3 sections with open waitlists and when I was done registering 1 of the sections became full

@hairlesscow‌

Was there a lot of Poli Sci majors at your CalSo?

@Theunderdog You’re back! We missed you!

@TheUnderdog1‌

Where’ve you been? @CollegeDropout1 is right, we’ve missed you. :(

@collegedropout1 @Cayton

Long story short I got lost on my way to the bathroom, and woke up in a janitors closet cold, naked, and covered in orange juice. I don’t know how long I’ve been here, but please go get help quickly!

@CollegeDropout1‌ @Cayton‌
Oh, and I’ve been busy with Finals, packing to move, etc. but other than all that I’ve been good.

You guys? Where have you both been? You said you’d meet me at Union Station at 11:30 pm on May 30th. Neither of you were there…I waited until 6 am. Shame on you two.

@TheUnderdog1‌

lol wut
