@moriartee There’s a UC parking garage between units 1 and 2, which is a couple blocks away. There might be closer parking but I’m pretty sure they’ll let you bring a car if you want it. Looks like it might be a little expensive[/url">http://pt.berkeley.edu/parking/student"]expensive, you might be able to arrange something cheaper elsewhere. My roommate had a car, she was paying a nearby apartment (or something?) for a parking space, it was 3-4 blocks south of Unit 2 but still way more convenient than buses/walking.

I got Unit 2 triple. Is this bad? Do they force you to buy a meal plan?

@Cayton I was really surprised. I did send in medical accommodations like I need to have a kitchen and prepare my own meals.

@music1990 I’m definitely going to accept it! It’s in my price range which makes me feel very lucky, I was stressed.

On the FB group a lot of people seem to be denying their offer, so if you wanted an apartment or something you may be in the next batch.

Who else is still waiting for a housing offer?

@creduityskills I’m the opposite of you, I put Martinez and all the other singles down because I’m antisocial. I suppose they saw that I’m actually antisocial and put me in a single? :P

@hairlesscow If it’s an apartment triple (Wada) in unit 2, no, you won’t be forced on a meal plan and you got pretty good housing. If it’s a mini-suite triple, the bedrooms are pretty big, you get an almost-private bathroom, it’s kinda expensive, and you’ll be forced on a meal plan (included in the dorm price). If it’s a standard triple, you’re in the most miserable, cramped housing on campus, and yes you’ll be stuck with a meal plan (again, included in the dorm price).

@failure622 just chekced… it is an “apt tpl”… sweet! no meal plan!

@failure662 any idea how Martinez singles in an apartment are like? i got RH Apt Sgl, which I’m guessing is a room for myself in a 4-bedroom apartment. I tried googling for pictures but got no luck :(

When I saw my housing assignment email I was like “Wait what? Martinez single? Wasn’t that my first choice?”

@moriartee
Did you get one of those berkeley housing booklet? It contains general layouts for all the campus housings.

@moriartee I’ve only been in Martinez a couple times, I don’t have any pictures of it. But I found you a video tour of a room: <a href=“UCBerkeley Martinez Commons Apartment/Dorm Tour - YouTube”>UCBerkeley Martinez Commons Apartment/Dorm Tour - YouTube;
There’s a lot of different layouts for Martinez… the ones I’ve been in felt a bit maze-like and I remember thinking the bedrooms were tiny, but that probably varies by room. Either way, I’m jealous of you and I wish I could’ve lived in Martinez at some point. :P

Some of the layouts can be found here: http://www.housing.berkeley.edu/livingatcal/martinez.html

@Loyshi: no I didn’t.
I just wanted to know how small a room can be, since everyone says they’re pretty small ^^*
@failure622 thanks for the video! Everything looks pretty standard. How am I gonna fit my 42 inch TV in there, lol? Are the apartments equipped with AC? How awesome is Martinez really, since everyone seems to like them?

@moriartee I don’t know about Martinez in particular, but most campus housing only has heaters, no AC. It’s usually cool enough that it isn’t a problem. I’m sure you and your roommates can make room for a TV. :P

@failure622 I hope I get along well enough with them for once! ^^* I’m generally nice as long as people aren’t annoying
So no AC? Aw man. What about laundry? I suppose it’s coin op? Do you have to buy your own detergent and dryer sheets? What about cleaning the place? The video you posted says that toilet paper is refilled every week. Is there a person who cleans the common area in the apartment or is it all us?

@moriartee I’ve lived in Wada, not Martinez, so there may be some differences. For Wada, machines were either coin operated or you could use your Cal1Card (there’s a debit option). It’s something crazy like $3 per load if you want to wash and dry. And you bring your own detergent and dryer sheets.

Cleaning staff comes by once a week, suites/mini-suites are the same way. The bring toilet paper, take out bathroom/kitchen trash, clean the bathroom, and possibly wipe down kitchen surfaces for you. I don’t think they’ll vacuum or anything for you, and you need to clean your own bedroom once in a while. You’ll probably want to coordinate with roommates about keeping common spaces and the kitchen/dishes clean.

Front desk lets you rent vacuum cleaners (they almost work?), and if something breaks maintenance is free and pretty easy to request.

@failure622 thank you so much for the answer! That’s super informative. I’m hoping the vacuum cleaners rental won’t be that expensive, lol. I’m a girl and I shed a lot ^^*
I have this thing against cheap toilet paper so I’m hoping it’s not terrible ;; if anyhing I’ll have to buy mine.
Did you rent a microwave/ minifridge? Did the Wada apartment come with a microwave? Do we buy our own dishes?
Also, how would you describe the mattress, lol? I like something not too soft, but not too firm
Man I’m so picky!

@moriartee Vacuum rentals are free, you trade CalID for the vacuum so they know you’ll bring it back. Wada (and I assume Martinez) comes with a full sized fridge, a microwave, oven/stove, a sink, cabinets and counters. At least in Wada there were no dishwashers, everyone just chipped in a couple bucks for a drying rack for their rooms. You’ll have to get your own dishes, silverware, pots and pans, etc. My roommates also brought a toaster, toaster oven, and a rice cooker, so we were pretty well equipped. Share with your roommates, it makes it a lot easier. :P

I’m not sure how the mattresses are, I’ve always had padding/memory foam on top of mine.

I think I have a decent chance with a 3.8 GPA, multiple leadership roles, volunteering, and starting my own company for the rhetoric major but I wound up on progress probation my first semester as I got my only 2 Ws that semester. … I’ll have to wait and see.

@cekelly

I was on progress probation before and still gained admission to Berkeley.

@Cayton What were your stats and major? I am going to apply just want to see. :)

@cekelly

At the time that I applied to UC Berkeley, my GPA was 3.88. At the time that I was accepted, it was 3.83. My major is philosophy.
