@inshallah12 Industries and Fortune 500 companies aren’t built upon sob stories. I’m an immigrant and my home country is being ripped apart right now. But I choose to look ahead rather than complain. Companies don’t hire under-qualified people because they faced difficulty in their life. That’s not how the world turns. It’s only these colleges that want to appear benevolent and kind so they can continue to receive government money while they strip people of tens of thousands of dollars. Get the wool off from over your eyes before you graduate without a job and thousands in debt. I’m happy for everyone who got accepted and I’m sure most of them deserve it but let’s not distort the truth.

I’m honored to be admitted to Cal. I’m more than thankful for all of these options. I wish everyone on here a great future. You guys will do great at the next level.

@fcrane You sound bitter… I was rejected last year from Berkeley; but I made the necessary changes, played their game, and got in this year. If you want to be a WINNER, do what you need to do to succeed and don’t make excuses- execute. Berkeley wants winners who won’t sit around and make excuses and blame other people.

@CooCooCaChoo25 I don’t care about Berkeley, the school. I wanted to go there because it’s near San Francisco. I’m not going to play their game, it’s not that worth it. Also, getting into Berkeley doesn’t automatically make you a winner.

@fcrane @coocoocachoo25 The forum is here for us to help each other, and breath words of encouragement into each other’s lives. Lets keep it civil guys. No need to take shots at each other.

Thats probably why you didn’t get in then, you don’t care. You are right, it doesn’t make you a winner, you make yourself a winner. In fact, you don’t need a college degree to be successful at ALL. Regardless, you have taken the path to a higher education, if you are going to do it, you might as well try your hardest. If you don’t want to go to Berkeley then don’t reapply or appeal. Do whats good for you, but don’t come around here talking crap and belittling others acceptances :)

@stanx89 you’re right. I apologize. Just needed to vent, I guess. The mods can delete my comments and I won’t respond to anyone else because I don’t want to derail the thread any further. My apologies.

@FCrane, calm yourself. You should already know Cal’s holistic approach is a backdoor to prop 209. Deal with it.

@CooCooCaChoo25 That wasn’t my intention. The people in this thread obviously care a great deal and I’m happy for all of them
Truly, I am.

@FCrane I wanted to write that as encouragement, not as detriment. I felt horrible after I didn’t get accepted last year, but I pushed through and kept at it. I can relate to how you feel. @zalrons , I am a single white male and got in. I honestly think they look at your grades and prereqs and if your personal statement is good you are in, if not you are out. I will admit, I was kinda puzzled to see you get rejected from Cal myself, @zalrons.

@CooCooCaChoo25 It was my fault I didn’t get in. I didn’t understand how to manipulate the application to my advantage. Just needed to let off some steam.

@fcrane I understand man, I was in your same position last year. Where else did you get accepted? I am sure you got into some top notch institutions! You don’t need to manipulate or lie -not that you did- just know who your audience is and gear your application to that demographic, same thing applies to success in business/real-world.

@FCrane I thought you were missing a major prereq. That was most likely the reason you didn’t get in.

@coocoo, Not saying you can’t get in if you’re white or anything. There’s just too much evidence that leads me to believe that the holistic approach is a backdoor to prop 209. It’s subjective and I personally don’t think there’s anything wrong with it.

My PS’s certainly weren’t spectacular. And I did attend an oos 4-year uni before dropping out. Took 4 W’s because of that haha. I certainly don’t think I was rejected because I’m white or anything!

@zalrons good thing you wanted to attend UCLA anyway
lol

@oongaboonga I thought that as well but they offer Spring admission to some people in that case so it must have been something else as well.

@CooCooCaChoo25 I really only applied to the UCs. I’m not one who really considers prestige of college, location is most important to me so I’d rather not dig myself into debt anymore than I have to because I get $0 financial aid. I meant manipulate as in literally change, didn’t mean to imply lying or deceiving which that term connotes. That 1 pre-req hurt me because I really only got into UCD, UCSC, and UCSD. I had 2nd week registration for a year at CC and the classes I needed to take are filled within the 1st day. So I took whatever I could and got my 4.0 but apparently that doesn’t matter as much as I thought. I’m not going to waste another year at CC, it’s not worth my time just to reapply. Would’ve been nice to be in SF but oh well.

You said you got in this year? You going?

Yeah haha I would’ve been so sad if Berkeley was my #1 choice at the end!
