The Official UCB Fall of 2014 Decisions Thread

@FCrane‌

I thought that personal statements could either make or break you but only if you were borderline in terms of GPA. I also, as I’m sure you did as well, did not discuss how “great” I think I am but an experience that made a big impression in my life and how that, in turn, influenced my goals and the things I want to accomplish in life. I don’t think people should be penalized for not having some awe-inspiring story to tell, or maybe they do and just don’t feel comfortable sharing it with people they don’t know.

I keep thinking about where I went wrong, but am more curious than bitter at this point. Makes me consider writing an appeal highlighting everything I assume (maybe incorrectly) they wanted to read, and submitting it just for the sake of it. Not that I believe it would change anything since supposedly very few people get in on appeal, but still.

I had/have no intentions of attending UCB though so it would be pointless. All it would help with would be a bruised ego.

I completely understand where you’re coming from thought, it is somewhat frustrating but I get a sense that you’ll do great no matter where you end up. Best of luck!

@vivalavida14 My PS had the same subject yours had. And I am one of those people who isn’t comfortable spilling my inter-most personal experiences.

I’m very curious but also very speculative haha, can’t really help it

But to be honest, everything you just wrote is how I feel and how I would approach it as well. Except I would have liked to go there.

I really appreciate the kind words because this is the internet and mature conversation is hard to come by. Best of luck to you! You are confident about your stances but you’re also curious and willing to accept a different view and you can’t imagine how much I respect and admire that! Hope nothing but the best.

Hey everyone, I was wondering if there’s an official transfer group for Berkeley on facebook? They only sent me that Transfer and Re Entry page to like but no UCB Transfers group :frowning:

@noflowers‌

@inshallah12 was interested in making a facebook page. You guys should make one together.

@FCrane‌

There you go, mystery solved! :smiley: We didn’t get into UCB because according to our PS choice of topic we’ve apparently just lived coddled lives and have faced no hardships whatsoever, ha! (Now I’m just being foolish)

I also purposely avoided discussing many, many things just because I didn’t feel like sharing. I completely respect those who went that way though and focused on overcoming those situations. It’s just not for everyone.

You my friend definitely need to appeal then. You’ll do it, won’t you?

You’re too nice. :slight_smile: Maybe you can write me a letter of rec for my UCB appeal? All kidding aside though I know what you mean but it’s also true that people on this forum are helpful and respectful for the most part, at least from my experience. Sometimes we just want to be right and are quick to judge which sucks since we are all adults. In any case I’m not gonna pick a fight on a college forum so I’ll leave it there in terms of that.

Where will you be attending if you decide not to go through with the appeal (or regardless of the appeal)? Where were you accepted?

@VivaLaVida14‌

Same, I’m pretty reserved and I prefer to show rather than tell.

I might appeal but all the information I got for my original application led me astray and there’s even less information about appeals. So I’d be doing it almost blind. If I get a chance to go to Berkeley and hopefully talk to someone and get enough info to the point where I know I’m not wasting my time, maybe. Because I can go to UCSD as is but for Berkeley, I’d have to take Calc 2 over the summer in the span of like 6 weeks lol and might still not get in and that class most likely won’t transfer to UCSD.

The internet can be very confrontational and I’ve thrown some stones as well, but it’s how a conversation ends that’s important.

Probably UCSD since that was my 2nd choice and I got in.

seriously why are the transfer admit days May 10th for all the UCs? I want to visit to see which one I like but…I can;t

@FCrane‌

Definitely a tough call. Whatever you end up deciding to do good luck man. In my situation I was about 90% UCLA 10% UCB so when I got the news from UCLA it was more of a confirmation that it was were I belonged and would thrive. It’s what I’m making myself believe at least. :)

Needless to say UCSD is a GREAT school. I got the welcome package and it even has stickers so you can dress “King Triton” lol. That almost made me rethink UCLA.

They do offer the International Studies major though which I was always interested in and a Latin American Studies program that offers field research in the border region. Have you been there before? I really liked the campus and the city itself. No doubt you’ll have an amazing time if you choose to go there.

Yes! It’s best to look at the good side of things, life is hard enough as is.

@randombookie‌

Exactly!

@vivalavida14 Happy for you, man.

I’ve been to UCSD before, yeah. It’s really nice and my friends live by the beach which was awesome.

yup. We’ll see what happens in the end.

Hi I’ve been accepted to cal. Unfortunately I dropped a class that i didn’t need on the 24th since that was the last day to drop classes at my CC. On the conditions of admissions, it says i should complete ALL classes. I notified my advisor and waiting for a response. Im freaking out so bad since cal is my dream school and would be devastated getting rescinded for something I didn’t know. Anyone else in/was in a similar situation, or know someone that was in a similar situation and know the outcome?

@ccecontrans: It’s not guaranteed, but normally, they’re nice about it as long as it was not a pre-req and you are still over 60 units by the end of Spring. Or you can try to beg them to complete that course in the summer.

Good luck.

Who will I be seeing over the summer for those who will sign up for Berkeley’s Summer Transfer Edge?

I wish I did not need to post these questions in here, but I am forbidden by the gods to create new threads. Anyways I was wondering if anyone has checked out the spaces in classes for Fall 2014. It’s crazy. From what I can tell a lot of my classes are already full! Anybody else?

Didn’t get in. Oh well. Congratulations to all of you that did. I truly hope you have an awesome time at Cal or wherever you decide to go. Good luck!

1 of my class is full too. But I signed up ahead of time :stuck_out_tongue: Probably because it’s a 2 unit class to help push people over the 6 units for financial aid.

No wayyyyyyyyy! Are you sure you aren’t looking at fall 2013??

I’m pretty sure I’m looking at Fall 2014. It’s what it says in my drop down bar, now unless the schedule builder is inaccurate, or I’m somehow reading it wrong. I doubt I’m reading it wrong because one class says 72/300 and another says 68/68.

Here’s the summer classes schedule for those who need it:
<a href=“Summer Sessions Courses | Berkeley Summer Sessions”>http://summer.berkeley.edu/courses</a></p>

Anyone here know if its hard to switch majors with no pre reqs done for the second major? I want to switch from psych to art history…I could complete two pre reqs over the summer if I successfully petition to take summer classes. Anyone out there think this is doable? I’d like to double major, but I think I’d hit the unit cap.
