The Official UCB Fall of 2014 Decisions Thread

Also does anyone know how financial aid works? If I got a $14726 scholarship and my tuition and fees are only $12878, is the rest getting sent to me in a check?

@TheUnderdog1‌

I imagine that if there’s any leftover money from a scholarship that’s paid for every expense it’s intended to cover, they’ll probably give you a check.

^^^ I got the same amount for the Berkeley Scholarship, wondering the same.

@TheUnderdog1 Can’t say for sure how UCB works, but that’s exactly what Cal Poly Pomona did as long as you’re in good standing.

@cayton thanks for that. Have you checked into class availability at UCLA yet? It’s cut throat on my end.

@TheUnderdog1‌

Well, political science is impacted as ■■■■ at UCLA, so no surprise there. :P

I went to the UCLA philosophy department’s website to look at fall 2014 availability of classes, but they have no link for that quarter up. Just links to past quarters. :(

Did you look at class availability through the UCLA poli sci department or through another site at UCLA?

@TheUnderdog1‌

When can we start signing up for fall classes?

I’m waiting for transfer day on May 10th to plan my schedule because I’m kind of confused on what I need. Is anyone else waiting or is everybody picking their classes right away?
Also, I read that you sign up for classes on the CalSO (orientation) day.

@music1990 I was looking into the CalSO orientation and it says that it is that day that we “register phase 1 of class registration.”

I’m just taking 4 units ESPM50AC for the American Culture requirement, which is a graduation requirement. Then I threw in a 2 units EPSN82 to allow me to qualify for financial aid over summer.

Hi guys! I’ve been lurking on here forever and finally made an account to post. It actually feels like I already know you guys since I’ve read all of the posts on here basically, but I’ve finally stepped into the fray!.. Anyways, this is long overdue:

Accepted! :D

UC GPA: Not entirely sure because I have work from my CC and a private art school. 4.0 at the CC so far, and 3.67 from my art school
Major Pre-reqs Completed (Y/N): Y
Intended Major: Media Studies
TAG?: no
IGETC?: Will be completed by end of Spring

Extracurriculars (clubs, leadership, volunteer, work): Not a lot, mostly from high school also two short times I worked
Additional Details: I left my art school after one semester in 2012, rested during the spring and tried to figure out what I wanted to do… Took a programming class for the hell of it and decided it wasn’t in my future. Then slammed a whole bunch of units between last Fall and this semester to get back on track.
Applied for Financial Aid?: Y
State (if domestic applicant): CA!
Country (if international applicant):
Ethnicity: Asian
Gender: F
Estimated Family Contribution(EFC)/Income Bracket: too high for aid

Attending Transfer Admit Day? (if admitted): Yes, I hope to!

Applied: UCB, UCD, UCSD (tag), UCLA, UCSB, USC
Accepted: UCB, D, SD, SB
Rejected: UCLA
Pending USC!

Congratulations to everyone who got in!! I am so glad that I got in, especially since I was rejected from UCLA and that made me really nervous. I’ll be happy to see anyone intending to declare Media Studies this coming Fall! I already signed up for Transfer Edge actually haha.

*Editted cause I forgot to put that I was accepted although it says at the bottom anyways

I’m somewhat surprised I got into cal . I applied as a sociology major and my personal statement which I allocated the most words for was all about pursuing my interests in psychology (that is my preferred major, I just did not meet all the pre reqs at cal so didn’t even bother applying).

@HelloPersonC Ah well it is indeed nice to be past all of this! Good luck with everything!

Does anyone else have problems checking their berkeley emails? When I click on bMail, I get directed to a google page that says “Google Apps - This account cannot be accessed because we could not parse the login request.”

@conheo‌ That’s strange. I was able to log on to bMail right after making the acc yesterday. Try again later and if it still doesn’t work, call them and ask.

@inshallah12 @music1990‌
I signed up for CalSO yesterday and it requires you to go through a academic orientation online (AO). In the AO it tells you what classes you need to take for your major (or the majors you are interested in) and other various required classes for graduation. Then you can make a planning of your fall schedule which you can print and bring to CalSO and register for those classes there.

@Yukaris Did you create the email after you SIR’ed? I wonder if that’s why… I can’t SIR yet because I have some questions about the conditions of admission.

@conheo‌ Yeah, I SIRed first and then signed up. That’s probably why.

@‌Yukaris Hey!! When you signed up for CalSo orientation were you able to enter your home address in the personal information section??? Cause when I try to sign up the only thing there is my zip code…

Guys im really torn between ucla and berkeley. If I wait t do the housing app for ucla/berkeley how screwed will i be? I just dont know if ill be cetain where im going until the middle of may.
