@patriciav I am! But I think I’m living on campus in the Martinez apartments. Received my offer today

Are the Wada apartments considered off campus? If so, will there be a deduction to my financial aid if I decide to stay there?

You can join the facebook group by searching Berkeley Transfer Students class of 2016 on facebook.

@patriciav
I signed up for summer classes and emailed my AO about it. He proceeded to discourage me from taking summer because we would still need to get 3.0 over summer or get rescind…

So I’m considering not taking summer class anymore, since i haven’t had a summer off so far.

@loyshi, really? They require a 3.0 for summer?? I was thinking about taking Calc2 this summer, but I might not be interested in that, if thats the case!

@Catullus
I called 2 semesters ago to Berkeley and spoke with a counselor. He told me this limit does not apply to transfers. In other words, there is a cap to what units are considered at Berkeley, but they won’t revoke your app by taking zillion units - they don’t care how many units you have taken as long as you transferred at a reasonable time (10 years at CC is not reasonable). I’m a pre-med major, have 110 units, and it’s impossible to transfer with less than 100 units with all the pre-req done (a year of physics, bio, general chem, organic chem, anatomy, physiology, etc`).

@Loyshi Really? Do you mean he discourage the summer edge? Or just a regular summer in local CC?

I just signed up for their Transfer Edge…maybe I should consider a little bit?..i know it could be tiring…but i was admitted into a pre-major, and i would like to take the rest of the major requirements asap…so i won’t have much pressure in fall…

Basically I asked him theoretically if i can drop or change the grading option to P/NP for the summer classes.

His reply,
“Correct. Semester GPA at 3.0 or above for ALL semester prior to coming to Berkeley. Summer included. My question to you is why would you take courses and then drop them? I would suggest not taking any if you can help it. Use the time to prepare your life for Berkeley and take a break from school for a bit. If you take summer courses they are accelerated (faster than other semesters) and you would run the risk of not doing well. If you don’t acheive the 3.0 GPA your admissions would be rescinded. BUT, if you wish to take them you can.”

@loyshi you would be taking this summer course at Berkeley, correct?

Hey guys, for FinAid, I don’t see Cal Grant explicitly listed, is it included yet or no?

@Loyshi thanks for your reply and share his msg!! I do think that 3.0 is a big deal…maybe i should email my AO about my special case too…thank you!!

@CooCooCaChoo25
With his reply, I’m debating if i should. It would be nice to just sit back and relax considering i haven’t had a summer break at all since HS graduation. If i get into Bridge Weekend, I might ask about it and decide afterward.

If you are already done with all your prereqs I wouldn’t risk it.

The class would have just been used to fill my America Culture requirement. and another 2 unit class just for the financial aids.

@inshallah12 Yes, Wada (and the other apartment-dorms) are considered off-campus for aid purposes. I don’t know exactly how it affects your aid, the theory is that off campus housing is supposed to be cheaper than dorms, so they give you less aid to cover it. That said, Wada is significantly cheaper than comparable “on-campus” dorms.

As for 3.0 over summer, yup. I’ve heard that freshmen in Edge are required to keep a 3.5+ to satisfy their conditions too. I don’t think I’ve heard of anyone actually getting rescinded over summer classes though? Summer classes can be really helpful if you’re missing a lot of pre-reqs (specifically for EECS/CS), but make sure you don’t take on too much… summer is fast and classes here can be tricky.

Damn, I was hoping to knock out CS61A and CS70 over the summer, but getting a 3.0 could be extremely tough. (Assuming that the 3.0 is for Berkeley too? Or just other colleges?)

@Cayton
@Loyshi

Oh well my school gave me the option of attaching like a title page to the transcript, so the recipient knows what it is right away I guess? But that sounds like a no from you two

@CSB111
I was just going to take the American culture requirement… but now I’m thinking twice before i do.

anyone??? can help?? ><
