[ *] Rank: Top 4% / 350 students
[ *] Other stats: Highest Honors and Scholar Athlete all 3 years

We The People- Team finished 1st at districts and 3rd in state; Team captain; Junior year
National Honors Society
Project X- Community service organization; participated all 3 years
Link Crew- Participated as a Junior and Senior; helped mentor incoming freshmen and ran freshmen orientation

DECA- Only participated freshman year; State qualifier
Worked 2 part-time jobs- One at Walgreens and one at my best friend’s father’s Law Office
Attended Hoosier Boys State this past summer (Nominated by teachers at my school based)
[ *] Essays: Common app essay was about not making the basketball team my freshman year, and specifically how it was a blessing in disguise (Allowed me to focus on school and try new activities). I spent a lot of time of the Michigan essays and had peers review them. I name dropped a professor I conducted research on and a few classes I was interested in. Highlighted my interest in engineering based on my father’s career as a carpenter and going on side-jobs with him. (Also good at math and science)
[ *] Teacher Recs:
My first rec was from my Honors pre-calc teacher my Junior year who is also my BC Calc teacher this year. She also runs national honors society for my school. Obviously she knows me well, and I participate a lot in her class. Second rec was from my We the People coach. He has seen me grow as a speaker and is a very eloquent writer. I also received another rec from the lawyer I work for, he has known me my whole life and coached me in basketball.
[ *] Counselor Rec: Generic; I am friendly with her when we talk, but we don’t have a very strong relationship.

IGCSE Exams: 2 A*'s, and 4 A’s
EC’s: Ton of community service; volunteered at orphanages, tutored at government schools for the underprivileged, performed at nursing homes, and contributed significantly during a natural calamity in my city that saw the most historic flooding of all time (food drive, clothing drive, collected money and distributed it all over the city). Varsity Basketball all four years, co-captain junior year, captain senior year. We won a couple tournaments and I was the MVP twice. Student Government (House system): I was the captain of my house junior year. Dance Club: Part of it for freshman, sophomore, and junior year, and we came second in a competition. Worked for my dad at his IT Company as data validater and enricher for 3 years during summer (freshman, sophomore, and junior). Silver International Award for Young People/Duke of Edinburgh Award for 9 months of continued community service, action, and creativity.
Recs: One from my English teacher and one from counselor. Teacher rec is pretty great considering she’s an NYU Alumn and we have a great relationship and I’m one of her top students. Counselor rec is subpar because she’s not too acquainted with the college admission process.
Essays: Definitely the best part of my application, my common app essay was outstanding. Really captured the essence of being an international students, and having lived on opposite ends of the world (US and India) for a significant part of my life (14 years in the US and 3 going on 4 in India). My UMich essay were pretty good too, especially the one about wanting to go to UMich. Showed tons of interest, especially because I visited all the way from India in April and talked about my visit.

Considering I got in OOS to LSA initially after being deferred (now in Ross) with only a 29 ACT from Class of 2019, I have to disagree @AspiringScho1ar . Chances of being deferred are likely though. Just be sure to show interest to those that end up getting deferred via letter of interest to your territory counselor… it helped my case especially! GL to you all!

I get my decision in like a week, but I have a lot of concerns and i’m freaking out. Please chance me.
@ac57019 your resume is about as strong as you could of made it without retaking the ACT or SAT. WE are all hoping for some decisions to come out tomorrow. With that being said, you have made your strong case and it’s all you can do. You are a stellar student. UMich is my #1 as well. It’s gonna be tough so many with crazy good resume’s but if deferred I plan on camping out on their doorstep in -30 weather and roasting marshmallows to show my commitment!

I am an international student studying in India. Most schools in India follow CBSE curriculum which consists of rigorous studies and examinations in science subjects along with English and Computer Science. We don’t have any credit system (like in A.Ps, I guess), but I have earned a 10/10 Cumulative GPA (CGPA) in 10th grade boards and have written SAT subjects with Math 770, Phy 760 and Chem 800. Furthermore, I earned 91% in 11th, which may seem a decline in academics from 10th to 11th, it is really tough to get even above 80% overall and I have also received a monetary reward from my school for that. Even though, we aren’t pushed for much ECs except clean up drives once a year ( rather we are more of academically focused), I have taken part in some volunteering and social service. My question is whether the admission officers at the university are aware of CBSE and the system.
Thanks.
P.S I have received several certificates in academic excellence for 7 consecutive years out of which only 3 matter (9th 10th 11th).
