i think all 3 of you guys on this page are in. You all have difficult curriculums and good GPA, which is what matters the most at Michigan. Also, the admissions people here love to see leadership in extracurriculars, that they can boast when they welcome the new class.

BobbyT12 especially, should be in. Debski, I’m a little worried about the Top 25% and not top 10% rank, this is also pretty important for Michigan. Maybe your school is very competitive…

pinktennis, the ACT is pretty low for OOS, but ACT/SAT scores aren’t that big of a deal for Michigan, just make sure to apply early.

thanks keefer
I already applied a couple weeks ago so we’ll see what happens

Applying Early Response, does that improve my chances?

i have a question, will someone’s major affects his/her admission chance?

No psp-fifa-fan. Major should not affect chances. First of all remember that you can always apply as an undeclared. What does impact chance is the school you apply to (Engineering, Kines, LSA, Nursing etc…). However, what major you chose within that college probably will not impact your chances. Of course, if you declare your major as Math or Physics and you score a 650 on the SAT Math and only took Pre-Calculus or regular Physics your senior year, you may raise a few eyebrowse. But declaring an obscure major will not help your chances.

And how much do essays matter? Only editing is holding up my application right now.

[ *] College (LSA, engineering, etc.):Engineering

[ *] Other stats:
[ *] Subjective (ECs, special circumstances, etc): Science Olympiad, Mathletes, and Quiz Bowl for all four years. I have some scattered awards, don’t know if worth mentioning. I am very passionate about Quiz bowl. I have gotten an article about stereotypes published in a local paper, National Honor Society, National Spanish Honor Society, and Tri M for two years. National merit finalist, too. There’s a bunch of other stuff too, but I can’t think.
[ *] Essays: strong

[ *] Other Factors/questions:My senior year grades are all mostly A+s, with a couple of As. (I’m thinking this may at least very slightly redeem my bad past performance)

Hehe! I like your major strength. How are you going to manage wording that in your essays/ECs?

Anyway, your unweighed GPA is sort of low, but your SAT/ACt is strong. I’s say Michigan is a solid match for you. Apply as soon as possible.

[ *] College (LSA, engineering, etc.): LSA i think? political science
