Should I include somewhere about how I moved out of state when I was about to start junior year in high school and how it negatively affected me, or is that looked at as trying to make an excuse for my performance in high school?

Thanks guys. U of M - Ann Arbor has been my dream school since I was little. I watched every single Wolverine game and despise the Buckeyes like any other Michigander. Unfortunately, due to my situation, it may look like the cost will be too much for me

Figured I’d post here too

I was thinking that I might get waitlisted, then approved after my 1st sem. senior year, because it’s my first time with AP’s.

couldn’t edit my above post… ^^

Does U of M not count freshmen year in your GPA? If so, I have a 4.0

@Bc2015
U of M no longer recalculates GPAs. So yes, your freshman year is included into your unweighted GPA.

@Bc2015, how does that work?
Without freshman year you have a 3.8, but with it you have a 4.0? I’m missing something.

Haha sorry, with freshmen year I have a 3.8, without it I have a 4.0

going backwards again.

BC2015 - Between slight reach and match. Your course load is light but you seem to have exceled in every year minus your freshman year which is understandable.

RocknPiano - reach. Its terrible that you had to move your junior year and understandable why your gpa would suffer from moving. I would definitely explain that situation. I think you can get in if you can get a better ACT score (to show your academic skills) and work hard that first semester. Also to note in your essays should be your experiences with volunteering.

ctoncton - Match. Great scores and great gpa but it seems that you’ll probably have to be admitted as an International student (maybe?). However, your enthusiasm in EC and the upper level courses you are taking will probably push you through.

thoughts on retaking the ACT in October? That’s the next test date, but it seems a bit late. What if I somehow scored lower? Should I not get my results sent to U of M, then If I improve my score get that one sent after?

The next date is in September, actually. If you’re planning on applying EA, you can still take the Sep. ACT and elect not to have it sent to U of M in fear of getting a worse score. However, if you take the ACT in October, you must choose to send the score to U of M when registering for the ACT.

Thanks! The late date was the only thing holding me back. I’m signing up first thing tomorrow for the September 11th date
If I start studying now, I should improve by a point or two. 32 has been my high school long goal. I’ll shoot for that
Is there any difference in me automatically getting my score sent, or having ACT send it at a later date in relation to admissions? I would think not.

^technically no but I would just send it automatically anyways. UofM won’t mark you down if you do worse on your next exam.

Just scheduled my September 11th Test date
I decided to just get my scores sent.

[] College (LSA, engineering, etc.): LSA and possibly Ross

@qmarschik: The Essays are out
[Office of Undergraduate Admissions: U-M Common Application Supplemental Essays for First-Year Applicants](http://admissions.umich.edu/essay/)
The Common App one can be found by signing up there too.

Thanks for the info, I will definitely take a look.

@qmarschik:

I don’t think admissions will drastically change next year despite the changeover to the Common App … for Chicago it took about 2 years … anyways …

Your ACT is OK (Michigan does not superscore) for LSA but it’s not gonna cut it for Honors. Your GPA is OK (based on what I’m seeing I think it’s around a 3.7). AP and Honors will help because they’ll think that you’re more prepared and it’ll help compensate for a lower GPA. No one will take that self-diagnosed OCD into account though. Lol … I have that issue too! Just sleep a little bit more and relax a bit … then your mind won’t go in all sorts of crazy directions … it’s hard tho as a junior in HS

Your ECs are comprehensive as well and should help.

Submit your app ASAP and it’ll boost your chances!

Chance: Match/Low Match - stats a bit on the low side of the range, but you come across as a really well-rounded person and that bodes well for Michigan

Reach for Ross PA - apply as a freshman - just work really hard!!

If you have any questions, please PM me. I don’t go on CC much anymore.

@qmarschik

If your GPA (as ab2013 has stated is near a 3.7), in addition to your 29 ACT, then you are probably a slight reach. Michigan does not really consider legacy and does not superscore. Being an OOS applicant puts you at a disadvantage compared to IS applicants.

Reach for Ross.

Maybe think about retaking the ACT getting it around a 30-32. Also be sure to do well first semster of senior year and bring up your GPA. Have a good course rigor for senior year too!
