[ *] Teacher Recs: good, i hope
[ *] Counselor Rec: same, i have know clue, i didn’t read the recs
[ *] Hook (legacy, recruited athlete, etc.): mother is an alumni to engineering, sister currently attending in LSA honors, two uncles also alumni to engineering
[ *) Location/Person: ?
[ *] State or Country: MA
[ *] School Type: public
[ *] Ethnicity: middle eastern (aka white)
[ *] Gender: female
[ *] major strength/weakness:
strengths: i think i have pretty good ECs, have a lot of diversity in my life, hopefully legacy helps
weakness:possibly my scores which i think are too low for engineering
[ *] Other Factors/questions: i really want to get in, but was it a bad idea to have applied to engineering? i really want to be a civil engineer, and if i had applied to LSA instead, would my chances have been better? and would i been able to transfer afterwards??

your feedback would be much appreciated:) I am waiting on my response from them any day now…

[ *] College LSA
[ *] SAT (one sitting):

[ *] Other Factors/questions: had a major recruiter for umich write a letter of recommendation straight to the office of admissions

had everything in by september 28th

i know it is a reach…how close though?

im reading a lot of these people telling you guys that yall are likely to be deferred/eventually rejected… i know their intentions are in the right place but i’d like to say, it HONESTLY comes down to the admissions decisions and not others telling you yes or no.

I’m from Texas with a not so impressive SAT: 1910// UW GPA: 3.79//W: 4.26
i didnt have crazy extracurriculars or aynthing and to be honest i was a pretty vanilla student, and i still got in. so dont let things like low scores discourage you. you could honestly get it maybe perhaps because you wrote an incredible essay or something (i think this is my case)

I also got a C junior year in an engineering class and thought that was it for me. and btw, if you guys have a bad grade or have lower gpa’s and plan on having someone/yourself write/explain why you had a little dip in grades, you might want to reconsider. i was goign to explain my C; however, after contemplating i thought it would just seem like i was trying to save my own ass. just a thought

but good luck to everyone still applying/waiting for answers and i really do hope each and every one of you get in. you all seem like you deserve it.

[ *] major strength/weakness:
[ *] Other Factors/questions:

I’ll go backwards.

worder - your gpa seems like it’ll be fine. Your SAT can be a bit better. I would study for the sat again and try to get 2000 or more. Right now, I would say very slight reach.

ismail - your strong match for LSA. Don’t expect to get Ross preadmit though I think its possible with your credentials.

Hardcore - it seems like you’ll be fine. Match, definitely explain your situation in your essays.

Doing this for my little brother, since he absolutely loves this school and the college life but really wants a scholarship:
[ *] College (LSA, engineering, etc.): Engineering (Planning on double majoring in Aerospace Eng & Biomed Eng) OR LSA (which does he have a better chance at?)
[ *] SAT: CR (770); M (800); W (760) = 2330
[ *] SAT IIs (if sent): Math Lvl 2 (800); Biology M (790); Chemistry (800); Physics (800)
[ *] ACT: N/A
[ *] UM unweighted GPA: 3.75
[ *] Rank: N/A (But probably Top 8-10%)
[ *] Other stats: 2 APs, several honors courses

    [ *) Location/Person:
[ *] State or Country: NJ
    [ *] School Type: Public; 4000 Students
[ *] Ethnicity: South Asian (Indian)
    [ *] Gender: Male
    [ *] major strength/weakness:
Strength: Very passionate about what he does and I assume this will show up in his essay
    Weaknesses:
  9. waited until junior year to do lots of ECs (besides tennis and programming) although he has put in crazy hours every day (working like 40-60 hrs a week like a real job for the past 6 months = intense participation and involvement)

had a bit of a blow in junior year, dropping to 3.5 avgs for both semesters (otherwise his GPA would have been higher)

[ *] Other Factors/questions: Can being a late bloomer be compensated by intense involvement in whatever time remains? My brother has worked an insane number of hours and he plans to do more until January of senior year and I think while he lacks long-term involvement he certainly has the intensity and a considerable number of hours. 2nd, is it possible to shave off freshman year with APs (to cover humanities reqs) and possibly a second year by pushing the credit limit per semester and doubling up? Our parents, while middle income cannot pay for both me and my brother, so finishing quickly is the only possibility. Can performing well in the first year grant him permission to push the credit limit beyond the norm? Thanks, and sorry for the long response.

[li] Teacher Recs: pretty good. hopefully they can show good aspects of me
[/li]

[li] Counselor Rec: should be pretty bad. happen to have the worst counselor in the school.
[/li]

[li] Hook (legacy, recruited athlete, etc.):
[/li]

[li] Location/Person:Central Jersey
[/li]

[li] State or Country: NJ
[/li]

[li] School Type: Public~1600
[/li]

[li] Ethnicity: Asian (Korean)
[/li]

[li] Gender: Male
[/li]

[li] major strength/weakness: low gpa, lack of ECs
[/li]

[*] Other Factors/questions: do i stand a chance for Ross pre-admit? or should i just go for LSA and do an internal transfer later?

ryancj - slight reach. You seem to have a strong courseload but definitely try to get a better SAT/ACT score to become a match.

osceola - match. Tell your brother to describe his experiences in his essays/additional material and he’ll get into w.e school (lsa coe) he wants. Thats basically his extra curriculars and his application should be quite appealing with it [despite his lower than average gpa]

jimseung - match, you have enough ECs. Now ross is going to be difficult to get preadmit but given your experiences, and if you do decently well freshman year, I’m sure you’ll get in through internal transfer.
