***The official University of Michigan Chances Thread:***

Ok thanks for the all feedback, I’m not sure where to post this but is there anywhere I can ask about which other colleges I should be looking at? U of M simply seems attractive since it’s instate for me but I’d like to find some other colleges with good engineering programs as well.

Yeah, both CS programs are the same (except CoE needs 8 more credits) which is why, IMO, you should major through the prestigious College of Engineering and get more math and science then major through a liberal artsy college. Also you’d get a Bacehlor of Science Engineering degree through CoE, whcih I’d rather have than a Bachelor of Science from LSA.

UIUC is nearby and has a good engineering college…its CS program is better than U of M’s, but it doesn’t justify the high OOS tuition and sucky aid you’d get. I think Cal tech, UCLA/Berkely, CMU, Stanford, and MIT are all good engineering schools, just off the top of my head. Oh and I heard Georgia Institute of Tech is good too o_O

Heh, yea I’ve heard of those too

Now if I could get into one of those… :stuck_out_tongue:
I’ll apply anyway and see how it goes, they’re part of Common App anyway I guess (Mostly)

Copy and paste the above format and remove all spaces from the brackets. For example, instead of [ ] it should be []. Then, fill it in with your information. That way, those of us who chance people can easily read a nicely bulleted list instead of a mess of asterisks and brackets.

^ Chriso, You’re a match, I think you’ll get in if you apply ASAP. The only thing a little weak about your app is the little amount of AP’s/honors. If that’s all your school offers though, you’ll be fine. Good luck!

I’m sorry about your mom. You could write an essay about that and your low ECs if you wanted to, but I don’t really think it will matter too much. You have good stats so your EC’s won’t really matter anyways.

Id say you’re in easily chriso, but did you apply yet?

Yah, I did today! Thanks for the advice and I did write an essay about my mom.

Good luck! You have great stats so I’m sure you’ll be fine.

^
I think you have a very good chance of being accepted. One of your parents was a legacy, your stats are at the top of their average, and you attend a competitive high school. You are also in-state and applied early decision.

Anyone have any opinions on me (post #834)? I’m nervous cause I still haven’t heard back yet.

Motion12345, I’d say you’re probably in. I think you’ll be fine with a 3.75 UW GPA and a 1390/2050 SAT score.
