^^^ my high school gpa is a 3.94/4.00 if that helps at all. My gpa is normally fine, but the way UM recalculates it makes it REALLY low for some reason.

It’s midnight so I really don’t want to fill out the entire thing.

ACT - 31
GPA - 3.7 (bad freshman year, A’s ever since)
Res - OOS
ECs - Generic clubs, building an orphanage in Haiti, Eagle scout, Taken 5 college courses so far, 4.0 gpa.
LORs- Awesome
Rank:40ish/350
Gender: male

Tired…

[ *] Rank: school doesn’t provide rank
[ *] Other stats:
[ *] Subjective (ECs, special circumstances, etc): I have enough to fill out the common app, not spectacular, but I was devoted to some of them
[ *] Essays: My CC told that they were fine, but I personally think they’re mediocre… kinda not creative
[ *] Teacher Recs:

[ *] College (LSA, engineering, etc.):LSA
[ *] SAT: didn’t take it
[ *] SAT IIs (if sent): 700 chem, 770 math II
[ *] ACT: 33
[ *] UM unweighted GPA: 3.38 - this is what is killing me, but the thing is, I’ve taken all honors classes with multiple IB and AP courses, the only regular classes I’ve taken are the required ones to graduate such as Art and Public Speaking
[ *] Rank: school doesn’t rank
[ *] Subjective (ECs, special circumstances, etc): Shadowed 2 different surgeons for about 10 hours each. Volunteered in local hospital’s emergency department. School yearbook editor. Varsity Snowboarding (yes, we have a snowboarding team) 3 years, JV tennis 3 years. Other minor volunteer experience, but no other significant ECs.
[ *] Essays: Common App essay very good, Michigan supplements decent.
[ *] Teacher Recs: I’m assuming they are good, I can’t read them.
[ *] Counselor Rec: Same as teacher rec.
[ *] Hook (legacy, recruited athlete, etc.): No hook
[ *] State or Country: Michigan
[ *] School Type: Private, the most competitive school in Michigan. One of the best if not the best school in Michigan.
[ *] Ethnicity: Indian
[ *] Gender: Male
[ *] major strength/weakness: I can focus academically when I need to, I slacked off during high school more than I should have, which I really regret, but I’m trying now senior year and with my all honors I’m getting 3/4 A’s
[ *] Other Factors/questions: The school I go to has a 70% U of M acceptance rate and U of M understands how difficult the school is so they know the gpa we get is usually not reflective of our academic ability

Although with my low GPA, I am on par and stronger than some of the students that were accepted into class of 2015 so it seems that the chances are in favor for me, but I am still very concerned considering I have already been denied my top choice university and I don’t know what I’ll do if I don’t get into U of M.

40/60…UM unweighted GPA: 3.38 - this is what is killing , but as School Type: Private, the most competitive school in Michigan. One of the best if not the best school in Michigan.
Good luck!

So I applied (early action)to the school of kinesiology at Michigan for a Movement Science Major. I currently have a GPA of 3.8 and have taken a total of 6 APs. Also I am on the varsity cross country and track teams. I am the president of the Model UN club and a co-captain of my quiz bowl team. So I would like to know what you think my chances are being accepted to Umich.
thank you

Parchment may be a little optimistic there, as it is with most people who use their chances calculator. I don’t know if your involvement in your extracurriculars is enough to compensate for your low ACT and OK GPA. If I were you, I’d look for a back-up or two; certainly don’t expect to be accepted.

@besjbo a 34 is a low ACT? i’ve never really chanced a person, but that seems pretty legit, along with the SAT, SAT 2. The gpa is pretty good, and if the ecs have been a dedicated effort, i say you have a pretty solid chance. I mean, if you are referring to @rynpak

It said 24 when I read it. OP must have edited it and made me look like a jerk. A 34 is very good.

@besjbo we forgive you :)

I’d really appreciate any feedback whatsoever, whether it be positive or negative. Thanks!
