I am a senior from Los Angeles.
I applied EA
GPA: 3.9 weighted (My school does not do class rank, I have a class of 1048-yeah its big- and im definitely in the top 8-10%
SAT: R: 660 M: 630 W: 640 1930 total
US History: 770 Bio: 620
ACT: I have been practicing and all my tests are around a 31/32.
AP Tests: 5 AP Euro 5 AP Enviro 5 AP US 3 AP English
Im also taking 4 APs this year which will give me a total of 8 in high school (I know UNC likes to see course rigor)
EC: Involved in 4 clubs and have a leadership position in 2
I work at a local soccer league, so I have some work exp.
I volunteer for a local aquarium sponsored by Heal the Bay as well as tree people, another large environmental group in LA. In Heal the Bay, us volunteers were recognized for being influential in banning the plastic ban by the city of Santa Monica.
I know it might not be the best resume, but is it worth taking a visit there? I heard that helps.
thanks

@brent7009 If you feel strongly about going to Umich, I’d definitely take a visit (if you have the extra cash to travel all the way over here) during Winter or Spring Break. Ann Arbor probably won’t overwhelm you, but it’s still a new and exciting environment. But I’ve always wondered why a huge number of kids from California have Michigan as one of their top schools. Heck, if I could, I would love to attend a UC.

[ *) Location/Person: NYC area
[ *] State or Country: NY
[ *] School Type:Public
[ *] Ethnicity: white
[ *] Gender: female
[ *] major strength/weakness: i’m in the IB diploma program, which is basically AP on steroids. it’s like taking (at least) 9 AP courses between junior and senior year, doing 150 hours of community service, writing the high-school version of a thesis, and getting a special diploma for it.
Weakness: i was kind of a slacker in freshman and sophomore year; my grades take a definite upward turn junior year. because of that, my GPA is way lower than it should be.
[ *] Other Factors/questions: how/when do you apply to/ get into the honors program? what are the stats for that? and anything you could tell me about merit scholarships would be reeeally helpful. i know it’s a long shot for me; im really just curious.

[ *] Hook (legacy, recruited athlete, etc.): legacy.
[ *] State or Country: Michigan
[ *] School Type: IB school, extremely rigorous curriculum. however, only 1 AP class offered, in 9th grade.
[ *] Ethnicity: white
[ *] Gender: female
[ *] major strength/weakness: strengths- high school rigor and recs, weaknesses- possibly GPA and ACT
[ *] Other Factors/questions: How is “UM unweighted GPA” different from a regular unweighted GPA? Also, is the GPA asked for of our junior year or our cumulative high school GPA? Does UM look at letter grades/GPA with the +'s/-'s of the grades removed?

GPA and SAT scores are a little low. I’m from NY as well and at my school the average admitted student has a 2140 SAT and I imagine at your school this is similar. If you can retake that would probably help. Also try and bring up that GPA to around a 3.8 if possible.

Best of Luck!!
