My friend’s Mom told me I was lucky to get waitlisted, because her boss’ daughter, with better stats than me, got rejected. She had supposedly impeccable credentials (NM semiF, almost perfect SAT’s, top 1% of class, etc). They even hired a professional “College Advisor” to help her through the horrible selecting colleges/ application process, to be sure she did everyhting right. But she also applied to Harvard and Princeton and schools like that, so did WUSTL speculate that they were probably not her top choice? Possible. Or maybe she made some mistakes, or was lacking in EC’s or something, I have no first-hand knowledge. Except that she was a top student, better than me, and got rejected. It’s crazy.

EXTRACURRICULARS… this should have been added in during the beginning.
A full scope of a student cannot be seen without this portion. You can be a perfect 4000 SAT student for all I care, but as an admissions officer, I’d rather have a 1500 SAT and a well-roudned person.

A reminder to the rest that A&S and engineering are the most difficult schools to get into since they have the highest demand.

Kirstin—my stats arent the best, but urs arent up ther either, why are u complaining

I think that kristen is happy with being waitlisted. That’s what I assumed.

o ok then sry kristen…i guess when so many others are complaining, i thought she was too

well it is NATURAL to be waitlisted for harvard. it is UNNATURAL to be waitlisted for washu

that isn’t necessarily true anymore. I think it is a natural thing for massive amounts of people to be waitlisted at the tope 15 or so schools, one of which is Wash U…

Umm…evidently it isn’t unnatural for you hon.

I’m really sorry about you getting waitlisted…its been a good week since D-day…you need to let it go.

Heheh I was happy as hell to be waitlisted at Wash U. It was just a nice surprise, because I wasn’t even expecting to be waitlisted, let alone accepted. I’m pretty much what you’d call a one-sided brain. I’m best at writing, and I’ve never liked math, nor have worked on it at all. And unlike many people on this board, I never had a college counseler/SAT tutor/whatever.
My school has an extremely hard grading curve, which partly explains the low G.P.A. The other thing, however, was that I was undiagnosed with depression for most of my high school career. I’d come home and be so tired that I couldn’t start my homework at night, yet I’d still have insomnia. I’d cry for no reason, and I found I was unable to pay attention in class. My parents FINALLY got me on medication this year, and now I am doing so much better in school. Who knows. Maybe if I hadn’t had horrendous depression (which is genetic in my family), I would’ve done really well in high school and managed to study for my S.A.Ts. However, considering that I did absolutely no work at all, it’s a pretty big accomplishment to me.
I think one of the reasons I was waitlisted instead of rejected at Wash U. was because a. they don’t have a lot of people applying who want to take advantage of their INCREDIBLE creative writing program, as I do and b. Well… I mean, some people just aren’t good at math! It doesn’t mean they are stupid. I’m definitely not. I’ve never cared/never been good at math, but my verbal score was in the 98th percentile in the nation. And I was in Johns Hopkins Talented Youth program for 3 years because of that. I also take hard classes. Which I don’t know how I managed to do, seeing as how my depression hindered me in so many ways…
But no, I am not on this board to ***** at all. I’m thrilled I got waitlisted with a 3.2 weighted G.P.A and a 500 math S.A.T. College is college, and we’ll see what happens with all of us. I got accepted to George Washington University, which is a great school that offers a creative writing major (something that is VERY important to me). And who knows, maybe a lot of you will transfer in your first year or two. ALSO, all you people who got waitlisted or rejected… You guys got into some GREAT schools! Amazing schools! Schools people are proud to say they went to! I know it’s sort of bitter sweet, but you guys have incredible futures ahead of you. Everyone does on this board. Hopefully, I’ll have an okay one as well…

DECISION… accepted

SAT2…MathIIC 790, Writing 510, Chem 690…These are not outstanding either

I also got in Carnegie Mellon and I was gonna major ECE there…(or CS)
but after visiting WashU last weekend (just because it was FREE at that moment), I fell in love with the school!!!
I was not going to visit CMU, but I think I SHOULD…
So I will visit there next week and make a decision…
You know what…there was a reason why they paid for the tickets and etc.
There campus / people / social life / food / professors / scholarships are AWESOME
They did a great job…they really convinced the people…
