So what do you think? Thanks

Great EC’s, could improve the gpa and sat’s. Next year will be tougher than this year. Write some amazing essays, get some fantastic recs and hope.

I would suggest contacting the coach of whatever sport you might be interested in playing at Carleton. You can do this by going to the athletics page on Carleton’s website. Start a dialogue with the coach and see what happens. Good luck!

Hey you guys, how much of an increased chance would being a URM from CT give you?

All things being equal, meaning grades, test scores etc., I would think it would be an advantage. Be sure to express your interest throughout the admission cycle. Visit and interview if you can, and then through your Supplemental essay really let the admissions individuals know why you want to go to Carleton and that you have done your research and know it is what you want. Seriously contemplate ED 1 or ED 2 if you are sure Carleton is your first choice. Financial aid is just as good for ED so don’t let that scare you.

To follow up on M3D’s post about sports - absolutely contact the coach.

Separate tip for both Georgia and Florez - Showing interest is important. Visit and interview if you can (my S did not interview and I think that hurt). If you can’t interview on campus, see if you can do an alum interview. If you can’t do that, you will be have the opportunity to correspond by email with an alum. An alum contacted my son via email. He did not respond as he loved the place and had no questions/concerns and I think that also hurt. My S was W/L, BTW. He chose to not play the “admissions game” and garnered a full slate of W/L.

Last tip - play the admissions game wisely.

What other ways could I show interest besides just interviewing and visiting the campus? I already have plans to go this summer, and I plan on probably applying ED. Anything else that would really help in showing the interest I hold for Carleton?

Your essays. Carleton has some specific “why carleton?” essays - use them well to show how you’d be a good fit in their college.
