Is Evan still dating the ice dancer?

Wow, not much pressure on Abbott.

Is Evan still dating the ice dancer?

Wow, not much pressure on Abbott.

Can they please NOT recycle the music? I mean I like the classical stuff, but it gets old!

The old man just did a quad/triple (sorry, my NBC is on delay) - wooow… His speed is not as fast as it used to be, but still! Unless he does a faceplant in the next round, he is a serious threat.

Feathers? What are you talking about? Ah. I just realized we’d put the Tivo on during a phone call. No wonder I’m running a skater or two behind you.

Evan is not dating Tanith Belbin any more. She is now dating Charlie White (another ice dancer). Evan has been linked recently with Nastia Liuken (Beijing gymanstics gold medal), although it is rumored that the breakup with Tanith was her idea.

Sad for Jeremy. We sat in front of his parents at the 2008 Nationals, and they were sooo excited when he finished 3rd.

Oh goodness I just watched the Plushenka Tom Jones you tube video. That was hysterical. I like him better now that I have seen he has a sense of humor.

The men have more effortless jumps, but their spins are so ugly… especially that weird grab-your-skate downwards triangle position.

I don’t get how the announcers can say he (Jeremy Abbott) “ruined” his chances for a medal because he didn’t do a triple. But his program wasn’t even done yet. (They were right though!)

Wouldn’t the music for the last program (Puttin’ on the Ritz) be a hoot if the skater wore the skeleton costume?

Favorite moments: the jumps of Plushenko, the spinning by Stephane someone, the feathers, the happy tears of Lycicek.

I wish Dick Button could do the commentary while they are skating. He points things out that make what they’re doing make sense. He just pointed out how nice Abbott’s spins were and how some of Evan’s footwork was very difficult and how nicely he held the lines. If only he would put a skate blade through Costas.

They didn’t actually say that Jeremy had ruined his chances until he had missed on two jumping passes. He lowered the number of revolutions on two different jumps. He just can’t do that given the other performances tonight and expect to finish in the medals. If you can’t get a quad or a triple axel into your program, there is no medal for the male singles skaters any more. The judges know ahead of time what jump the skaters plan to do, too.

I’d like for Pleshenko to lose the mullet and Scott Hamilton needs to watch “What Not to Wear.”

Geez, you’re on a roll. 77.4

D2 says Plushenko needs bobby pins.

Bobby pins - LOL - so true.

Hayden - I don’t think I can handle the pressure, but I am imagining myself on the podium as they play the National Anthem.

Ewwww. Just watched the YouTube video. I just find him very unappealing.

The muscle suit was a little funny though, right?

int…couldn’t Abbott have added the jump he missed to be later in the program? They called it before he had even finished.

In order to do the jump missed, he would have to change the choreography because the entry into each different jump is different so he can’t just throw in an extra jump. If he has a double planned, he could triple it or if he’s comfortable with a quad, he could quad a triple. They really have to stick closely to the program because if the music doesn’t end with the program, there are points deducted for that too.

I remember seeing a skater at some Olympic many years ago throw in a jump later in the program that they had missed earlier. It was awkward, but you could tell it made them feel better.

Dick Button had on some seriously comfy looking shoes! Wow! He’s a funny old guy.

I vaguely remember that. But I think it was in the long free program. You can do anything you want in that one. But the short program is very strict. You have to do all of the required elements. I think it would be much harder to change your short program on the fly like that. Trying a “re-do” of one jump could cause the elimination of a different required element, so no beneift from a score perspective.

I have always disliked the short program because there is soooo little room for error. I don’t know how the skaters handle the pressure.
