I started out watching the ice dancing compulsories, but I fell asleep.

midatlmom, I think you may be right about NBC fanning the flames here. CTV had an interview with Plushenko today and he certainly doesn’t come across as the villain he’s been painted to be in the past few days. He was actually quite charming.

This probably sounds pathetic, but does anyone know of a website that is showing any of the Olympic Events live? I am working a special event tonight and don’t have access to a tv, but have my laptop right in front of me. Want to be able to see Mr. Ohno skate tonight!!! (he’s not on till 9:30ish for the first rounds).

I went to NBC Olympics - they perhaps have some live stuff, but don’t think the short track will be…

If you are aware of any websites, please let me know!

West Coast here–this is being written after the 1st round of ski jumps, before I know the final result–but can I be the first person to go on the Simon Amann bandwagon? He’s amazing!

I really tried to watch the ice dancing last night, but it was like “Groundhog Day” with bad music and no Bill Murray.

I was on the phone with my mom when it was on and she told me she had seen the same couple skate 3 times. They were different of course.

As everyone else has demonstrated, it’s entirely possible to criticize Plushenko’s behavior without doing so by means of barely-disguised homophobia. This was unnecessary.

Sorry, abasket, there is no legal way to watch the Olympics live on the internet if you’re in the US. Nearly all of the sites have set up their servers not to allow connections from US IP addresses. Any that are open are doing it illegally. I’m not sure how NBC has pulled this off, but it all seems weird to me.

As much as I’d like to watch it unspoiled, I get the results off of the official site and watch it later knowing the winner.

^^^ Gotcha.

I know. About the 10,000th time I heard that same piece of music start up I just wanted to scream!

The bobsled reminds me of the Keystone Cops.

^^^^ We were just commenting that this is the funniest sport we have ever seen.

I think you should submit this to Merriam-Webster as a new definition for ice dancing!

Too funny.

Can someone please tell me what’s with all the cowbells during the bobsled (well, and any of those ice track sports).

I think bobsledding is a lot more interesting to watch than the luge.

teri, cowbells have been a staple for Winter Games fans for a long, long time. Each host city usually will produce a bell commemorating their Games and this year, Vancouver’s celebration bells are actually designed by one of the First Nations. They are not cowbells, but rather bear bells.
They are three bells on a green wristband, the three signifying land, water and air, as well as past, present and future. They’re a very popular souvenir in Vancouver.

I loved the ice dancing compulsories. I thought the man in the top Russian couple (Shabalin, Captain Ponytail) and the woman in the top American couple were fantastic. I’m no expert, but I could definitely distinguish the different styles of the different couples. Also the retro dress of the Russian woman was gorgeous.

??huh??
There is nothing homophobic about my statement. I have no idea if either skater is gay or not (nor do I care…)it’s just that I don’t find a catfight necessary with all the feathers and sequins. It’s not seemly, not between men or women. I wish they’d be a bit more serious.

Watching the women’s super-G event, at least that’s what I think it is. Coolest thing how they are able to show the two skiers superimposed together as they went down the mountain to show where they were compared to each other at any given moment. Wow technology is so cool!

^^
I’d love to ski that course.
