I didn’t pick up on that. I think I tune out most of the commentary.

Glad Celine wasn’t available. She may have sung, or even worse, replaced k.d.

All I can say, is that if the coverage is going to go until midnight every night, it’s going to be a LONG TWO WEEKS. ZZZZzzzzz. Don’t they know that I need my beauty rest?

Cartera:

Oh, finally someone who shares my sentiments about Celine. I swore that if she showed up on the opening ceremonies I would leave the room IMMEDIATELY. I saw enough of her in the “We are the world” remake. Ugh.

Another non-fan of Celine here.

Oh, I LOVE Apolo and his soul patch. He was so sexy on Dancing With The Stars.

Anyone else notice the guy from The Bachelorette during the opening ceremonies, Jesse? He was on Shaun White’s right.

It just dawned on me what a soul patch is. I was looking for something on his uniform.

youdon’tsay – are you referring to Louie Vito (another Dancing with the Stars contestant)? I think he’s a snowboarder.

I think she means Jesse Csincsak.

Oh I loved watching the Women’s mogul skiing last night!

BB- you are not getting CTV? I am close to the border (a la Sarah Palin, "I can see Cypress Mtn from my house…well, the lights at least!) and we have CTV Olympics live on channel 21. I was surprised as I had read all the Seattle Times info regarding the ‘wrong’ Canadian network getting the coverage and no Canadian broadcast in the US, but we watched the Friday PM festivities live in a pub and then have watched it at home, too. As usual, much better coverage, less human interest and more athlete action.

Just waiting for the curling :D

The luge scares me to death but I find it boring to watch.

A lot of yawning is often just a symptom of pre-race nervous energy. It’s common to see marathoners and other track athletes yawn a lot while standing around waiting for their races to start.

The soul patch was a cute affectation 8 years ago in Salt Lake City. It had worn a little thin by 4 years ago in Turin. Now it’s time to grow up and start looking like a man instead of a boy.

Could be a superstitious luck thing. He’s done well while skating with his soul patch. Better than not changing his underwear for week.

Or maybe he just likes it.

Disagree^^^^ If he can grow it, he’s a man. :)

We are too! Love curling!

Oh, I think you’re right. That might have been Louie I saw. I keep getting my Olympian reality stars confused.

I don’t object to all beards. Heck, I wear one myself. But the soul patch is long out of style and is a particularly juvenile fashion for a guy pushing 30.

There was a review of the new book “Undateable” by Ellen Rakelton and Anne Coyle in today’s LA Times in which they give fashion advice to clueless men. And two things they specifically mention as dating deal-breakers were wearing soul patches or bandannas (as well as Crocs shoes or Speedo bathing suits). I’m sure with his fame and money Apolo has no trouble getting dates. He could probably add the Crocs and Speedos and still get plenty of dates. But still, for someone supposedly so cool, you’d think he’d have been more capable of progressing as time went by.

As D said, Apollo’s silver was a gift from God. What’s the saying about just showing up? He and the other American put themselves in a great place to benefit from the Korean smash up. Good for them.

I agree about the moguls - ouch.

Pairs figure skating tonight. I’m glad I’m not emotionally attached to any of them - so many of the women fall on the throws. I hate watching skating and gymnastics live…makes me so nervous!

I think that the commentators are generally bad. Someone needs to remind them that most of us follow these sports once every four years. We need to be told how the sports are scored/judged.

I’m watching some of the pairs as well. No kidding, I find myself holding my breath with every big throw/spin !!! I also hate when the couple makes a mistake and the judges just take them down - “their score will SUFFER for that!!!” I guess I don’t need to be reminded of the obvious! Just a few minutes ago, one of the guys fell and I swear he looked so distraught afterwards - that is disturbing to see. :(

I’m watching the pairs too and either the commentators are wrong or the judges are hallucinating. I don’t tend to like the skaters who are perfect technically but lack grace - like this couple skating now. They are nailing the jumps but she looks really awkward. Her legs are loose and her arms are terrible. I didn’t like the very first pair that everyone raved about. I guess I don’t get it.

I’m just not liking a lot of these couples. The men look like they were recruited off the rugby field. And the judging seems out of whack.
