The One Food Item You Just Can't Eat

I am sure there are all sorts of unusual things I would not be willing to eat, but the most normal things I cannot stand are olives and beets. I cannot abide the smell of them on my hands even.

Agree with organ meats, etc. More normal things–I can’t swallow jello or applesauce. Pudding is difficult.

How common is it to have tried eating cat or dog meat? I can honestly say I’ve never seen of or heard of any opportunity to try either. Would you have to buy a car or dog and slaughter it yourself? Eating ostrich or kangaroo is one thing but eating cat or dog seems so unbelievably foreign.

The number 1 most normal food I can not eat is tuna fish. I can’t stand to even touch it or smell it.

Agree with the “no organ meat” and any animal that could be a pet. Rule in our house: DH won’t bring in liver in any form, and I won’t bring in beets (love beets).

Calamari , fried clams, beets , pineapple , melons . Also, my husband’s family from Sweden eat something they call Smorgastorta. It is a collection of foods that eaten alone, I am good with…but put them together and it makes me gag. Actually , a lot of their traditional food I find unpleasant

Lima beans. And if I am in the grocery store and pass a display of those jars of gelfilte fish my stomach gets queasy.

Oh, yes–tuna fish! Cannot abide the smell. Except fresh tuna, that’s totally different from canned.

Again . . . I would never have put cat, dog or kangaroo in the category of foods so left them off the list. I guess monkey goes on that list as well and anything endangered. I was talking “normal” foods as others have specified.

I am surprised at all the beet haters. I L-O-V-E love beets, particularly a beet salad with baby geens and feta and walnuts. I am fortunate to live in a family that eats brussell sprouts, asparagus and all manner of shellfish. DS refuses to kale (although he eats swiss chard willingly). He’s decided that he’s allowed to not like one vegetable and he chooses kale.

Ack! How did I forget? I don’t eat hard boiled eggs under any circumstances - not even in a potato salad. I love eggs most ways, but can’t do a boiled egg.

The only normal food that I won’t eat in any form is corn - and cooked carrots.

Beet salad with feta and walChopped liver- blech!! Cant stand the smell of any liver. Makes me ill. Literally.

My oldest son wouldn’t eat tomatoes, but he got over that. Middle son wouldn’t eat peanut butter. Haven’t asked if that has changed. Youngest wouldn’t eat tunafish but does now. Now he won’t eat black olives. Otherwise I can’t imagine serving our family anything that wouldn’t get eaten. Oh yeah, husband dislikes lima beans but I bet he’d eat them.

Most of the foods listed above I enjoy. Some I don’t love but would eat. Especially if served in somebody’s home.

I don’t know if you guys have “White Castles” where you live. They make little bitty steamed hamburgers. My kids love them but I can’t stand the smell.

I don’t/can’t eat anything that comes from the water – e.g., fish, sea food, mollusks. Makes me nauseated. My kids and my husband think I’m nuts. And they’re disappointed that I won’t even cook it for them. I can’t stand the smell, taste or texture.

any organ meat…ugh. I get sickened at the thought of nearly all organ meats. just gross. period.

I’m with @justforthis - cooked carrots. They physically make me gag. I like raw carrots, tho.

Since I’m not adventurous at all, I’m pretending that brains/organ meat/sushi don’t even exist.

I like beets in a cold salad with ranch dressing!

I don’t care for the taste of some game meats…too gamey!

Cooked cauliflower…the smell. Blech! My mother once tried to hide the cauliflower in mashed potatoes by pureeing it and mixing it with the potatoes…didn’t work and she gave up trying after that. I spent the first 47 years of my life despising Brussel sprouts until daughter introduced me to the roasted balsamic and garlic variety. Yum!!

I can’t stomach organ meats in their whole form, but love liver wurst on a crunchy french roll, with nice creamy butter to boot.

I cannot eat octopus sashimi - too chewy. If some comes on my combo sashimi plate, I trade it with Mr. B for salmon or tuna.

I stopped eating liver when I learned the molecular-level details of how it operates in the body. Would not eat an organ that operates as detoxifying junkyard! Brains… until there is more knowledge about prions and other such peptides that cause brain disease… brains are off my menu. Most likely, indefinitely.

I have not yet encountered a veggie I cannot stomach. I can eat natto - with my eyes closed.
