The Pope Has Died

An era ends. Even for the nonreligious, this is a day of historic significance.

I just saw that. He’s been leading Catholics for my entire life - so yes, the end of an era.

Pie Jesu, Domine, dona eis requiem eternam et lux perpetua luceat eis.

May his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, rest in peace in the mercy of God.

A truly remarkable man has passed away.

He was a faithful and great servant of God. He was a great leader and inspiration to Catholics and non-Catholics alike. I’m sure there is a big welcoming party going on in heaven.

How do they decide who is pope?

Well, in short: the College of Cardinals elect a new pope. There’s a long and complicated ritual that takes place to elect the new Pope, but in essence, this is what takes place…

I wonder if this generation understands. I remember Einstein’s passing.

I was able to see the Pope on an Easter Sunday in St. Peter’s Square 21 years ago. I am not Catholic, but I truly believe that, when I understood the Latin blessing he spoke, the effect gradually, but surely, changed my life. And what small potatoes I am compared to the millions whose lives he has touched.

God wanted the pope in heaven.

This same week my dad skied down a black diamond with an 84 yr old man…idk if thats coincidence or wat.

One man rarely changes the world for the better…this one did. This is a melancholy night.

Bluealien, here’s a link to details of papal transition…

There’s a picture slide show on his life. He forgave his would-be assasin on page 7. What a nice guy eh?
