I’m planning on transferring to the USA university from my country (Ukraine). I sent this university my Academic Transcript where I have all the subjects I have ever taken and passed. There are some courses at my university which do not have equivalent courses at the USA university. The Academic advisor from this university told me that these courses will be transferred as electives. (And I have bad grades for them).
1 Question: As I understand, I can select myself which subjects will be counted as electives, right or not?
2 Question: I have a lot of courses which will be counted as electives and for many of them I have bad grades (I have good grades only for the core subjects). Is it possible to select only those subjects where I have only good grades as electives and what is the optimal number of them? In the Articulation Agreement which they sent me it is said “Unrestrictive Electives - Use to complete the 120 Credit Requirement.” (It will be very costly for me to retake all of them)
3 Question: This university in the USA has the policy of transferring not more than 2 D’s and everything else should be higher. What if I have E grades (60%) for many of the electives? Will they transfer anyway or should I also retake them to meet this requirement of “having no more then 2 D’s”?
P.S. My academic advisor answers me one time per month, but I need to know the answer as fast as possible.

For the E grades, it sounds like the USA university will definitely not accept them, so you should porbably retake the class. The university might also determine for itself which courses transfer as electives, I’m not sure. It will definitely choose a certain number of them because you have to reach 120 credits over 4 years.

Most colleges and universities here will require that you have your records formally evaluated. www.wes.org is one good organization for that. I do not know of any place that does not accept their evaluations. It is possible that WES will determine that your E grades are equivalent to D grades here (or the reverse).
Courses in which you do not earn a passing grade will not be accepted for transfer credit. They won’t appear anywhere on the new college/university transcript.
Colleges and universities determine for themselves which courses can be accepted for transfer credit, and as what. They might decide that all of the courses taken so far in your major can only count as electives. The only time you have any control is if the college/university limits the total number of credits that you can use, but you have more credits that are acceptalbe. In that situation you can work with your advisor to choose the best courses to transfer for your individual academic goals.
When you receive an offer of admission as a transfer student, you should also receive an estimate of the number of transfer credits. This is just an estimate and will not be finalized until you do enroll. Sometimes students receive very few transfer credits.
