My mother was Grammy to my kids.
My mom was Nan and MIL is Grammy. My great aunt was called Gran by her grandkids- I always liked that.
Granny? Grammy?
Why can’t you also be Grandma? My kids (and my sister and I) called both of our grandmothers Grandma and it was never a problem. There was no confusion at all. At one point there were 6 Jakes in one of my classes and the kids still called each one Jacob. If I were calling on one to answer a question I’d use Jake X (first letter of last name), but that’s the only time I had to differentiate.
Even young kids can learn they have two grandmas (or more for blended families). The distinction is merely each parent’s mom. It’s no different than two friends of their sharing the same name. They get it.
Personally, I’ve never been fond of any “pet” name such as Nana, but of course I’m ok with others choosing differently.
I have close friends who had a baby and there are no grandmothers in the picture. They asked if the baby could call me grandma. My children do not have children yet, so I felt a little strange about this. I settled on one of the Irish names for grandma- Morai, pronounced Mo ree. The little guy ended saying Momo and that is what I am and love it!
Hmm, I think I like that one. Will be years before I will be a grandmother though. There is only one I’m totally opposed to. I will NOT be called “Granny.” Nope.
I have noticed a recent change when I come to CC:
In the past, whenever I read a post, then hit the “back” button, the page of threads had automatically refreshed. All of a sudden, that’s not happening anymore. Is there a fix for that, so that I don’t have to constantly refresh to see new posts?
^^^ I’m having the same problem with the threads not refreshing. It’s very annoying so I hope there is something to fix the issue.
Please add your comments/complaints to this thread. It’s been an ongoing issue and an unfortunate one as it makes the site less user friendly. I hope they get it fixed.
ok; here’s a question. I searched for someone online and information popped up about this person on a site called my life. I was surprised how much random information was shown. So I searched my own name, and I’m quite annoyed how much information could be found within a few seconds. My age, birthday, political party, household income, vehicles, family members etc. I HAD NO IDEA that was all public information; or is it? How do they get this info? how can i stop if from being there? any ideas? i’m freaked out.
^^^^I looked at mine and a lot of it is in error. Shrug.
We need a new furnace. The people from whom we buy our oil and who service it annually say so, and we paid someone ~$100 for a second opinion, and they say so too. People have told me not to buy a new furnace from the people who deliver your oil – somehow they’ll charge you too much, since it’s easiest just to call them and have them do it – but who else would I call? (The second opinion guys only service furnaces; they don’t sell them).
I just googled my name and found out I’m in 27 states and could be anything from a community choir member to a doctor. Not bad! I suppose I can choose who I want to be on any given day, no?
Ok, it’s up to 33 states on another search including my home state. Apparently there are 7 of me in my state too.
Get this… one of them - pretty close to the “real” me - says I’m male! Gosh! I never knew! My parents lied to me all this time… Won’t H be surprised when he finds out.
I’m lucky that I share a name with an old actress and a young youtuber so it takes a good long while to actually find me. DH shares a name with an A list actor and DD with a famous model so the same is true for them.
@VeryHappy - ask the service guys for recommendations. Also, if your furnace maker is in business and you liked how your old furnace performed and how long it lasted, look on their website for authorized dealers/installers.
Get a quote from the present oil co. Then call another. We converted to gas, so spoke both with our oil co and with a few plumbers.
Can’t know they’ll charge too much without getting the numbers.
Ask friends, too.
Assume your tank is in a basement and not buried inground, yes?
We had to get my late father’s replaced and relocated before we sold the house, but I’d have to do some digging to find out who we used.
A google search pulled up lots of oil tank replacement companies in your state- maybe try using your neighbor nextdoor app and ask neighbors for recommendations.
AS quick search of old emails looks like we used these folks for the oil tank (they service NY and CT): www.grazi1corp.com/services.html I think they were our second choice but were available to do it and it was fine.
@jym626 : It’s not the oil tank. That’s where it should be. It’s the furnace.
