The Random Questions thread

I am watching the CNN Apollo 11 special right now and most of those NASA guys are wearing short sleeve button down shirts. Circa 1960’s, still seeing my Grandfather and not a fan of the look.

Or this double spacing.

Seems like there are many angles to this question, including whether you have reasonable alternative job choices, and other factors.

For example, if you work for a government entity, do you want to change jobs because a different political party came into power in that government? Or only if the party’s policies affect how you do your job (e.g. you work in a regulatory entity, and the new party in power wants you to regulate much more or less strictly than before, or choose different targets for more scrutiny)?

@ucbalumnus That’s a good question. I like your thinking there. If it was me working in a government job, I wouldn’t necessarily change if a different political party came into power. I’d only change if their policies affected how I did my job. Now, if it was a political party that I am entirely against, then I would change just because they came into power. For example, a political party that would support racism and violence would be something that would motivate me to change jobs because I would not want any affiliation with them and do anything that would support their cause.

Lol, having lived in DC, many people don’t get choice to stay after power shifts. It’s a great tme to buy a house, as so many need to leave. Or so it was, in my suburb.

Changing jobs because you disagree is too important just to speculate. I have friends who couldn’t find a replacement job unless they moved far out of their comfort zones. I’m my own example: I’d have needed to commute 60 miles. Wait, already was commuting 60 miles each way. (Forget how many people do that routinely in LA.)

The decision becomes practical, not idealistic. I agree with jym about not taking a job where you can’t stand the philosophy or the product. But it’s often easier said than done.

Hence my user of qualifiers. That said, skidad has the same waist size at 45 that he did at 18, or so he claims. Doesn’t mean he should dress like an 18 year old, though.

Not if I could find another job.

Random question but what breath mints and cologne would you recommend?

@MoonKnight no cologne. Many places specifically ask that folks NOT wear any scented products. Just bathe well…and use an unscented deodorant.

Breath mints? For what purpose? If for clean breath…brush your teeth and use a good mouthwash. If for just having something to melt in your mouth, I like spearmint life savers.

I was thinking about using a mouthwash but I’d want breath mints handy just in case.

I like Smart Mouth mouthwash. I can’t say whether it performs as claimed for prevention of bad breath, but it is amazing for preventing colds. I have used it twice daily for several years, and I have noticed that I either don’t catch what my family has, or I get a lighter case of it. It makes sense, since it forms a zinc compound in the mouth, and zinc can stop viruses from replicating.

I was thinking of using Listerine mouthwash. Would you recommend that brand?

@MoonKnight , I was just about to go to sleep, but I can’t resist answering another question! I do not recommend Listerine. Do not ask me why.

I’d actually like to ask YOU a question. Why have you posted over 300 times since June 26?

I’ve had lots of free time so I’ve spent a lot of the time on the site reading discussions, participating in them, asking questions, and helping others to the best of my ability.

I have friend called Moonlighting. He has a second job of going on to relaunched websites to drive traffic and engage the community to interact with the new system.

It’s not a full time thing.

But the whole trick is to blend in and. not be noticed as such by the power users.

He was asked to do this for another college site and he declined.

He knew from his experiences on CC most of the power users are parents and they can sniff out just about anything. You know, because we are parents after all.

JMHO, but I never thought this thread was for general advice.

Random question - what’s the thrill in trying to be a top volume poster?

None. For me.

Back in the day, I busted a couple of insiders posting on YSMBs. Busting pests feels rewarding. Fake badges - who gives a rodent’s tush about it.

I seriously wish there was an option to opt out of this badge etc. thing - other than refraining from contributing at all.

Since it’s going to be another long night, this time waiting for updates, and I don’t have WiFi to play games (they use too much data)…

When you hear “The Bay Area” used in a sentence (no other location qualifiers or hints), which area pops into your mind first?

For me here it’s the Chesapeake Bay. When we lived in FL it was Tampa Bay. My mind still defaults to one or the other. When I travel I have to think twice to switch it to a different “Bay Area,” even when I know the local Bay is different. My mind does switch. I rarely make a fool of myself by discussing the wrong area. I just have to switch vs the auto response.

What’s on auto for everyone else - even if they don’t live near a Bay?

The Bay Area = San Francisco Bay Area.
And I used to live in Maryland.
