Bay Area - definitely says the greater SF area for me.
Interesting. San Fran didn’t even hit my radar and wouldn’t unless I were traveling near there.
What had the question pop into my mind was listening to the local TV where mom lives and their discussing a small little Bay as “the Bay Area” in their local news. I wonder(ed) if anyone else at all would mention a small bay vs the larger ones. I still wonder what’s on “auto” for folks.
Here’s my random question. Has anyone used the ignore feature? If so, how many times?
I’ve used it only twice in 9 years.
@Creekland I’ve always attributed the Bay Area to San Francisco and the surrounding cities.
@SnLMom No, I’ve never used the ignore feature.
Never but about to learn how to use it.
Update: Just did- works like a charm.
Lol, maybe your mom’s tv folks meant “the bay area,” or “the (Chesapeake) Bay area.”
Not “The Bay Area.”
A lot of us refer to big cities like NYC or SF as “the City,” with the capital C. As opposed to any old “city.”
@lookingforward The TV wasn’t talking about anything near as big as the Chesapeake. It’s a very small local river Bay. Chances are I grew up thinking of it as “The Bay Area” too, because that’s the biggest one around the area, but having moved away a few decades ago, my mind has switched off that one fully. It surprised me to hear it referred to that way.
Around me when folks talk about “The Bay” they are referring to the Chesapeake. That happens often for weekend getaways, etc. “My parents have a place on The Bay,” or “in the Bay Area.” This differentiates from numerous lakes or rivers that folks also go to. We also hear it on our news when talking about pollution, or news, etc.
ps With “City” I always think of NYC. Heck, when I refer to NY and where I grew up I have to qualify it by, “in the state, not the city,” because most folks around here will naturally assume NYC or the surrounding area. They did way back when I went to school in FL for a year in 10th grade too. It’s nothing new nor just local to a neighboring state.
Yeah, but I think the “a” in area is not capitalized for one’s local bay “area.”
And yeah, can be confusing.
Since DS was in San Jose for three years, San Francisco Bay.
The City, The Times. New York New York.
I have used ignore once or twice.
I have a random question - how does one become a professional weasel and where would one go to school for that? sarc off/
I have used ignore button only once and very recently.
I’m thinking and my mind certainly isn’t up to snuff, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen “The Bay Area” written out locally - at least not nearly as much as spoken - to even notice what’s capitalized.
Regardless of that, spoken is what I’m curious about since that spurred the question. I wondered if anyone else happening to overhear the question by tuning in to the news would realize what area they meant or default to their own “definition” and just have to mentally switch like I do when I travel. It’s a rather big area for tourism in the summer attracting folks from worldwide.
I never used the ignore button until today. Did someone decided to give us all a tutorial? Is this a sign of more to come? God save the Queen. ?
I’ve never used the ignore button, but I do scroll past some posts on my own once in a while - albeit rarely. I also don’t even come close to reading all the threads posted, so I pick and choose there too sometimes reading the first post and leaving after that if I have nothing to offer and it’s not that interesting to me.
My online time is often limited. Once in a while (like now) I need to amuse myself while waiting and have the internet at hand, but usually I’m far more limited time-wise.
As I said before, at least we have our humor, BB.
Creekland, if I were by you, I’d probably think of the closest “bay,” too. Actually, I am near two bays and, iirc, both are referred to by their proper names, in proper settings. Or we just refer to them as “the water” or the like. When I first moved here, lol, I probably thought all the water around us was ocean. It happens.
What/where is the ignore button??
I don’t think they gave me one. I don’t have emoji’s either…
Not a button, you have to go into your profile and scroll past “social” til you see “ignore list”, then add them. Hah - the only name on my list has been banned.
Emojis disappeared a while ago.
But you can still add them by text
The ignore “button” can be found by clicking on the user’s name. Select edit profile, then ignore. ?
The Bay Area to me is San Francisco but probably only because my brother lives there. I don’t know that I wold have known where it means before that.
I have never ignored anybody. I can’t figure out how to do emojis on my laptop. After they got rid of them I could press Shift + another button to get a few to pop up but now it only work with Shift + : not any of the others (I think it used to work with O and a few other keys.)
My random question - why, when I buy deep pocket king size sheets does the fitted sheet fit perfectly but the top sheet is not wide enough to tuck it in on the sides? If they know the mattress is deep why don’t they make the top sheet bigger as well? Ive tried a few different brands and it happens every time. I think I may have to start buying CA king top sheets?
