The Random Questions thread

How much more are the flights leaving tomorrow? United lets you change without a fee but you have to pay the difference in fare (if any).

Also, you can see how many seats are available in a flight online.

If the likelihood is that many others might also want to leave early to beat the storm, and if the price difference isn’t much, if, assuming the earlier flight will in fact get out, would it be worth your peace of mind to get him out for sure? And does he have only carryon luggage?

Oh, also check the Airlines website. Sometimes when weather is bad, they allow you to change yor flight without a financial penalty. Delta often offers this.

the luggage comment made me laugh. Coming home in mid dec, THEY LOST the piece he checked!! it’s completely gone, it never showed up. so . . he will just take one piece back with him on board i guess!

spent 57 minutes talking to customer service … . looks like he can get on a standby list and not have to have tickets re-issued (which would be a huge cost difference). he will have a 6 hour layover though. so we are talking!

and i couldnt quite catch it all; but because his outbound flight had a time change, it sounds like he can have a one-time change as well as a courtesy. the agent was helpful; but why did it take 57 minutes to figure this out??

In that 57 minutes they should have tracked down his lost luggage!!! Am guessing he didnt have an airtag in it. :frowning:
On our flight out of town before xmas, we had such an unexpectedly smooth check in at the airport (from the curb to the gate in 25 min, with big luggage to check in at a busy airport- but its got a wonderful special digital ID check in)… anyway our luggage ended up on an earlier flight! We then tried to go standby on that flight but there was only one seat left, so we stayed with our flight. Fortunately Delta did a great job of taking the luggage and putting it in their locked room. So we ended up getting our luggage faster than the people whose luggage was on our flight and they had to wait at the baggage claim carousel.

We checked our bags Sat am for our late afternoon flight, which was ultimately cancelled. (Boeing 737-900 Max grounding) The bags made it to IAD later that night on the red eye, arriving almost 24 hours before we finally straggled to Dulles. Hundreds of bags were lined up in the baggage claim area, no security, no nothing. There was one very overworked CSR at the United baggage claim office. H got our three bags off the baggage claim floor and just walked away.

At least we didn’t have to wait for our bags, and at least I don’t have to drive three hours to go pick up the bags at Dulles later today (after picking up the dog from boarding in WV).

I’m currently sitting on a United flight going home. They were asking for volunteers to give up their seats because this flight was supposed to be on the max 9 so fewer rows. Be sure when you check for open seats it’s on the right aircraft type if there had been a change.

I was shocked at how crowded the airport was at 5 am and all the announcements said the flights were all over sold.

If you can buy a seat, I’d pay the change fee to be sure.

Green pan vs scan pan vs…?
I see green pan has a good sale right now.
I didn’t have any success finding an old thread about frying pans, but I thought there was one.
In any case, what do people recommend? I have some old “no name” non stick pans. I don’t use them that often, but have decided I will get new ones when I find a good sale.
Thoughts on those brands or others?
I’m thinking of ordering these, but I don’t know if this is really a good sale or if they are always “on sale.”

Wow, that’s a good deal. I’m tempted myself. Interested to hear comments.

I have wonderful no-stick pans from IKEA. Might be worth a look if you have one nearby.

Even cheaper in the store

I have had mine for a couple of years without the flaking I have experienced with other pans. You cannot use them on higher than medium heat and I always hand wash.

Thanks for the heads up - I just ordered a set!

Costco is probably a good deal, but they are 2 different sets of pans. I can’t figure out which of the versions on the green pan site the Costco Jewel line is similar too.

ETA - maybe they are the same, I’m not really sure. But yahoo has an article about people agreeing the Costco Green pans are not worth it. But they get many positive reviews also. It’s so confusing…

For me, I’m ok with replacing a set of pans every few years. The 2-set I currently have I bought at the beginning of Covid for maybe $50 on Amazon. I think if treated right this 3 set pan can’t be all that bad!

Edited to say with Costco’s great return policy if they look lesser when I get them I’ll return!

Probably not helpful but hands down favorite, most used, most versatile pan is the ScanPan Chef’s Pan

ATK advocates for a cheap but excellent Tramontina arguing that non stick pans, no matter how expensive, have a life.

For me it’s the All-Clad D5 Essential Pan. But I got a green pan brochure thing which made me realize I should replace my old Teflon skillets,

I prefer the chef’s pan because the lack of long handle makes it easier to store.

Amen to that! I love my Scanpans but long handles are a PiTA. Chef’s pan is so much easier to store and handle.

I think that in addition to this thread named “Random Questions,” we also need a thread called “Stupid Questions.” Here’s mine for the day.

When drying a fitted sheet, is there any magic or trick to keeping socks, etc., from getting caught inside the sheet??
