And the warm water may make it easier to wash for long enough (says the skier who just washed her hands yesterday in a mountaintop restroom, with verrry cold water)

Has anybody travelled to Costa Rica?

We have a window of opportunity for warm weather travel this month, setting up a AAA travel agent appointment looking for last minute deals / low United Frequent flier miles. We liked our all-inclusive in near Puerto Vallarta last Feb… felt safe and pampered at Riu Palace. But want to try somewhere new. Cancun or Playa del Carmen might work. Better yes would be a new-to-us country - she has suggested Guanacaste Costa Rica. Beachfront preferred. For vacation, my husband (our family default driver) prefers no rental car… just tour from the hotel. Cruise idea could work for Feb another year when we have more lead time to plan.

UPDATE: Travel agent finds last minute deals for Costa Rica all-inclusive s. But from our youtube surfing it does look like a lovely country, especially for those who are into outdoor adventures. (More nature than history sightseeing.) We may want to someday plan a bus tour trip there. For this month, we are back to looking at Cancun / Playa del Carmen… could get awesome flights, 25K United miles each for direct round trip from Denver.

We loved Costa Rica. a 3 Hr flight from Houston for us (used United miles). We stayed near the volcano in the interior. The land - beautiful. The wildlife - amazing (sloths, monkeys, toucans, frogs with amazing colors). Highly recommended.

We did a great trip to Costa Rica in '04 with another family to Arenal, Monteverde and Manuel Antonio. We hired a van to transport in between places. I have a pretty detailed itinerary I can send to you if you’re interested. It is old, but has been used many times – H is the master trip planner!

Had a great trip to Costa Rica in 2022. 3 days at an eco resort called Rio Perdido, with hiking, zip lining, white water tubing, thermal river, and wildlife all around.

Then 4 days at the beach on the Pacific Coast, where we did some van tours

Everyone was very friendly, it felt safe, everyone in the tourist industry spoke English, I’d go back.

Thank you for the watch link, @Colorado_mom!

This is a “did you know” question. I’ve seen this happen often on CC lately so thought I’d point it out - but my no means is it a world problem….

Did you know …when you copy and paste a link - especially for an article or product - that you can delete ALL the link starting with the “?” In the link and it will link clearer on a page?

So if this was my link (just making this up)

Feeekeixdhakrbes/?rkedbskediicnsbs

I could delete starting with the question mark:
Feeekeixdhakrbes/

And the link would work the same!

I would say that most of the time it will work the same, but not always. Sometimes there is information in there that the web site needs to work properly.

Sometimes there’s data in there to get to a specific thing, like if you wanted to link to an item that was red and large in size, the color and size info might be encoded in the fields after the ? .

A lot of times it’s tracking information, such as the search terms you used or what site you came from or what device you are using, etc. That can be generally be safely deleted.

If you are going to delete all the junk, click on your link after to post it to make sure it does what you expect.

Yes, agree with clicking on the link after you’re done to be sure it links if you’re sharing it.

And the tracking info - when sharing on a public site - may be what you want to get rid of!

In the past, I’ve alerted a CCer or two that their email address was embedded in the tracking information! So yes, it pays to pay attention to the gibberish in the link.

/ref=…. This stuff is tracking. Can be almost always deleted.

I just learned that if one goes to https://archive.ph/ you can get behind a paywall. I just tried it for an Atlantic article that was sent to me and it worked!

I know nothing about this site, how it works, or if there is any tracking, so use at your own risk. Maybe someone else knows more.

The other trick is to put the url into an AI search and it will type it for you!

I went into ChatGPT. I don’t see a search window. I’m very, very computer stupid but now what?

Trying to decipher some sparse info from elderly relatives. Anybody familiar with legal document types that might include the phrase “Out of love…?”. At first it seemed they said Health Care Proxy, but per quick google seems more relevant to Gift Deeds(?)

Do you have google/bard or bing/copilot? Just put the url in where you would ask it a question.

I love the idea, but those can’t go in the dryer

I think this was mentioned before, but laundry bags work great for socks. I don’t wear socks, but DH puts his in the laundry bag that hangs from the hamper when he takes them off. I wash and dry them in the bag.

Is there a way to mute someone on CC? I believe in listening to other people’s viewpoint but after a while the repetitive posts can be annoying.
