Do you have a “buy nothing” Facebook group or something similar in your area? Maybe you could post it with a disclaimer that it has a known glitch and you’re looking to rehome to someone who can fix it? (There’s definitely “that guy” in my neighborhood.)
No, I wouldn’t pass it on if I weren’t comfortable using it in my own house. I would only give it to someone handy who might want to try to fix it, with full knowledge of the issue.
Ditch it. Better than worrying about someone’s house burning down over a cheap appliance. If you worry about it’s safety don’t do it to someone else.
No small cheap appliance is worth someone “trying to fix it”. Ditch it.
If you don’t know anyone like my Mr. B who likes to fix such things, toss it.
Also, look if there are some programs like the one ran by our local library system where volunteers fix stuff like that small appliance, mend clothes, etc. to reduce waste.
After seeing “This Is Us” with the dreaded crockpot… I’d lean toward discard.
Having said that, I found a 1950s electric clock from my grandparents. The time adjustment binds, but I did plug it in and learned it keeps perfect time. Trying to decide whether to offer it (for free), including disclaimer, to the antique tinkerer next door.
Similar to this, but red
Thanks all. It’s in the trash.
Has anyone used NOK Box?? It’s at thenokbox dot com. It provides the structure for you to complete it with all the information your next of kin (nok!) wll need when you die. It looks intriguing, but I suspect there are competitors to this product that might offer advantages.
I had a Facebook ad pop up for NOKbox a while back, and while I usually ignore those ads, I took the time to read through the comments on this one. They seemed to be divided between “it’s nothing you can’t do on your own” and “but it’s worth it because it’s the system that guides you through it and gives you the extra nudge to get it done”.
So, no direct experience, but the comments were enlightening.
Do we tip when people come to put in a new HVAC system? It will likely be the owner of the company, if that matters. I will make sure to have lots of cold water as it’s going to be a very warm day.
No tipping of contractors is the general rule. We never tipped anyone doing work on our house but always provided cold drinks when the weather was hot.
I didn’t (tip) - sole proprietor - I did make a Subway run and bought him lunch. And yes, tons of cold water. He was appreciative.
I follow Steve Martin’s character’s advice in My Blue Heaven - I tip everybody. And I’m never sorry for doing it.
I saw ads for it and it did look intriguing. I don’t think there is anything “new” but it does provide a ready made system. They had different prices for the whether you got just the sheets (and did your own file system) or if you went for the box and all. I do think it’s a good way to “get it done” and cover the most important bases.
Those guys aren’t minimum or sub-minimum wage workers, so no. Besides, you’re paying, what, $20-30k? You really going to add 10-20% on top of that?
Tipping is really out of control.
I tip My hairdresser and her sister the pedicurist b/c their rates are so reasonable!
So how much would you tip a roofing crew doing a $29,000 re-roof job?
My tip was giving the roofer all 9 of our PV panels and inverters that he removed. He was happy snf so was I. My roof job was fortunately less than your price—I am sure I have a smaller roof.
Have any of you been playing the 1% Club game on Prime? It’s brain teasers. We’re into it.
Oh my!!!
What do you think?
I think it sounds really nice for them but probably not something I would want.
