I love the idea just in terms of being able to hear a loved one’s voice. I have voice mails saved on my phone and computer from some of the last messages my dad left me and before my mom lost her ability to speak.
I agree with the voice thing, but the whole AI persona is a bit much.
But what a joy it was when my mom digitized all our piano and music tapes from the 70s-90s when she discovered that her Dad had recorded a little blurb at the end of one tape. We kids (elementary age) had made him a bday tape where we played on various instruments and sang a bunch of old timey and musical songs (Annie!) for him.
At the end he thanked us for making it for him and said it was the best present in his whole life. And then went on to sing (quite badly!) a song. It was awesome to hear his voice after 25 years.
Just gave me an idea if I ever have grandkids I could just record my voice reading a few kids books. That might be neat to have.
It sounds like a Black Mirror episode…
Any recommendations for a good brand fish oil capsule? My doc said to get one that has triglycerides - the one I’ve been using from Costco (Nature’s bounty) is not one of those. Apparently less effective according to the doc. He recommended something called Nordic Naturals. Any one use this? Does it smell very fishy? I can’t take strong smells…
I have some that say they are non- smelly pills but they are a million years old. Don’t know if the brand still exists.
I’ve used the Nordic Naturals lemon flavored liquid and its not fishy. I just add it to my juice or have even just had a spoonful and its fine.
I can’t take strong smells either. I find all of the fish oil supplements to be too much for me. So upon advice from the doctor, I now take Nordic Naturals Algae based omega 3 supplements. I haven’t tried their fish oil version but I like the brand.
My doctor once suggested fish oil supplements (and then Lovaza) which is how I learned I have a slow manifesting skin allergy to fish oil. It took me months to figure out what was causing the neck rash. Possibly this is why I’ve never liked fish - my body instinctively knew?
A recent observational study looks at the possible downside of fish oil use, particularly for healthy individuals - I know that’s not what you asked, but I was taking fish oil and have stopped until we know more…
“As this is an observational study, no conclusions can be drawn about causal factors, acknowledge the researchers. And no potentially influential information was available on either dose or formulation of the fish oil supplements.”
What’s hard to tease out of that article is what %age of healthy participants developed heart disease. A small percentage increase in a (what I suspect is a) pretty small percentage would be a very small overall increase.
I have had a bad episode of dry eyes. Recently had a stye that got infected and had to get antibiotics. So, fish oil and avocado was what the doc recommended. I have been using the Nature’s Bounty brand of fish oil for a while now - will give the Nordic brand a try.
Nordic is supposed to be excellent brand, from online ratings…
Hmm, trying to decide what to do. I ordered a really cute mug for my husband for Father’s Day. It was on Etsy and the seller was in the United Kingdom. I paid around $18 for the mug and almost that much for postage. I thought it was a lot but I really wanted the mug. Anyhow, I still haven’t gotten it so first I contacted the seller and told them that the tracking number didn’t work. They answered by saying it couldn’t be tracked in transit across the ocean and asked me to give it a few more weeks. That was new to me but I gave it a couple of weeks. Still no mug. This time I notified Etsy. The seller then contacted me and offered a refund or another mug. I asked for a refund. I received the amount of the mug but nothing for the shipping. Does this seem right to you? I realize that it may not be their fault that it got lost but I do feel that they never tried to track it down. Any thoughts?
I can see how if they actually shipped it they are not reimbursing you for the shipping. Are they a high rated seller? I think I’d accept that you got about half back and cut your losses!
What’s a good free adblocker for iphone?
I give up. I just can’t stay current.
Oh good grief. We’re not supposed to text OK or okay but 'k is alright with some while others find it confusing and/or juvenile. Now some cast aspersions on a thumbs up emoji? I just want a reply when I ask someone a question, particularly when it’s about if/when someone is coming to my home whether they’re a relative or a repair tech.
I’d much prefer a thumbs up emoji from my pest control tech than the hearts he’s sent when I’ve thanked him for adapting to my schedule. That did feel weird.
For the Gen Z’ers who take issue with the thumbs up emoji I’d like to suggest an emoji that uses a different finger in the up position (some refer to this as the "bird’).
I meant to reply to this earlier. I ordered a youth literature novel in German on Amazon. Obviously, it was shipped from Germany. It said it would take 4-6 weeks which I thought was odd. Eventually I got a tracking number from the company, but it didn’t work anywhere that I could find. After 6 weeks it still didn’t come so I contacted the seller. They said they could refund my money if it didn’t arrive in 30 days. I believe it came the next week. I’m not sure why it was so slow? But it did eventually come.
