I’ve yet to find a pair of compression socks that were comfortable enough to wear for a long haul flight. And I’m average size. I do a lot of walking the aisles and stretching when I fly.
Have you tried just calf sleeves? That’s what I wear. I hate compression socks.
I’ve not. My assumption is they’re going to be outrageously tight.
They aren’t if you size them correctly! I’d pay a visit to a running store. They usually sell sleeves for distance runners and can help find the right fit.
Hate to take away from the compression socks question - keep ‘em coming if you have comments…
Probably less takers for this “random” question. I want to purchase a leaf VACUUM for our yard. We don’t need a BLOWER - I think we have two of those and at least one gets used regularly. But I want a handheld (either rechargeable or gas if needed - not corded) VACUUM. We have a lot of stone edging around our pool along with plenty of bushes and a big towering oak tree - I want to use the vacuum on the stone to suck up leaves which are impossible to rake and because of the bushes hard to blow.
I know they often come as a combo, blower and vacuum. If you have any recommendations, let me know!
FWIW, my husband had great success with using our lawn mower as a leaf vacuum to clear the &$@*% maple leaves from our very long private drive (4 houses on it). He set the blades very high so as to not scrape the asphalt and off he went! Worked like a charm. Leaves ended up in the bag. I know this might not work for you but putting it out so someone in need of clearing a large flat surface can try.
We have had good experience with yard tools by Greenworks. Interchangeable batteries for all kinds of tools, from chainsaws to mowers.
Yeah that would not work on stone and bushes - but I’ve done the same when mulching up leaves on the driveway!
I knew Greenworks was a loved brand. Not so far seeing one that has vacuum capabilities
Our leaf blower mostly gets used in its vacuum mode to suck up and shred leaves. The result is more compact than full leaves, and I save some of it for garden mulch. It is REALLY loud, so I wear ear protection and fret over bothering my neighbors (the lots are small here).
Great idea! Thanks!
Yeah ideally I’d like it to mulch up and the. Use it in flower beds etc - our blowers aren’t dual purpose though

I love these. Not too tight if measured correctly.
Thank you! I ordered a pair, but of course they didn’t have my size (M), so opted for L - which I may have done anyway. My long haul is Wednesday, so if they fit nicely it’ll be just in time!
Would a basic large shop vac work? Ours can be used in vacuum or blower mode, and would probably be large enough for a small area of leaves.
Interesting idea. I think it would kind of cumbersome to drag around the space (and onto rocks) and back and forth from the garage to the backyard space…but good thinking!
I personally have no experience but here’s what Bob Vila has to say:
Good ole Bob…super helpful, thank you!
One thing I’ll have to consider is if the size/strength of the vacuum nozzle is too much and will suck up the landscape rocks! (we didn’t lay the rocks - I would have chose NOT to do that - but it’s too large an area for us to consider changing out)
Not sure how helpful I can be, since I’m not even sure if we have it anymore. But in our old house (1996-2006) our 0.25 acre lot was covered by giant oak trees and we had all of these crushed red brick gravel beds. We had a leaf vac that we used quite a bit - both for raking the back yard - which was a fenced in bowl shaped lot - nothing was leaving that lot without effort getting it uphill to the street, as well as the gravel beds.
Not sure what we had - looking at Lowes, Toro seems the most similar looking - but it did not generally pick up the crushed brick - maybe a few here and there, but not many.
I do not miss that yard in the fall!
I sometimes suck/grind leaves off an area with pea gravel. I do have to be careful to not get too close to avoid sucking up the gravel too.
My taller/stronger husband has no problem with carrying the big bag or our blower/vacuum over his shoulder. It’s more awkward for me. If I am chewing down a pile of raked leaves, I’ll usually find a way to prop it on the ground.
@kelsmom, in another thread where we cannot respond, you told us about your cousin and H being dropped from their state’s voter rolls. Can you elaborate? Which state for instance? Any idea why or how?
They live in Indiana - north of Valparaiso, in the boonies. Both of them were dropped, even though they had voted in the most recent election. They are in their late 60’s/maybe 70. They only found out because my cousin checked her registration. Her H then checked his, and he found out that he was also dropped from the rolls. I hesitate to speculate as to why … I honestly have no clue. She was going to the clerk’s office to find out what happened - I don’t know what she found out, but I’ll ask & report back.
