The Random Questions thread

We ate Boar’s Head for many years. We’ve stopped the last couple of years (we don’t eat deli meat often at all these days) but I did think they were better than other brands.

Has anyone here used a Cozyla or Nixplay digital picture frame? I am looking to replace my wall of photos with a digital picture frame. I need to mount the frame on the wall, have it interface with google photos to display my pictures. Folks recommend the Aura frame, but it doesn’t look like that can be wall mounted.

We have an Aura frame on our counter top. It’s great to see picture updates from out two kids. They do have a wall mount frame but you still need it to be located by a wall outlet for power.

We have Nixplay. Christmas present from youngest son. I enjoy it immensely.

We have 4 Photo springs in our family, they are great for sharing photos.

Can’t remember if you can wall hang it though.

@VaBluebird - do you have yours mounted on the wall? Do you know what size?

No, sorry, it is sitting on a table. It looks to be 8 x 10.

We use a google nest max hub that streams pictures from our google photos family group.

Next rec request: compression socks?

Recent flight, one foot/ankle swelled up. No blood clots, but doc recommended compression socks for flights. We have a few coming up (some international) - which brand do you recommend?

I like CEP compression socks and calf sleeves. Not cheap but they last! I actually prefer the sleeves so I can wear my favorite socks or be barefoot in sandals.

I usually tip the workers, not the owner.

Do you have a preferred kind for long airline travel? Just thinking about getting some but the few I’ve tried to wear were too tight and irritating. I guess you have to measure your calf and decide how much tension?

For some reason my Insta feed is recommending ‘Nurse Yard’ compression socks. Supposedly they have graduated compression that’s supposed to be better? I haven’t gotten them yet but likely will and I will report back.

With CEP, you definitely need to measure your calf.

Check local running stores - many carry compression sleeves and socks because distance runners like to wear them (main reason I bought mine!).

These workers are professionals and make decent living wage.

How much would you tip a kitchen refacer on a $20K project? One guy, not the owner, worked for 3 weeks.

I have a pair of Sockwell compression socks that I’ve used for years on long flights. I chose Sockwell because a friend who works on her feet recommended them.

I looked for a pair after an acquaintance at my fitness center (to my surprise) had a fairly serious clot issue after a Chicago/Hawaii trip. I figured it wouldn’t hurt to wear a pair. I only wear them on Hawaii and international flights. I also can’t compare them to other brands, but have been happy with their comfort and durability so far.

I guess it depends on what you are having done. I’ve paid painters cash at the end of a job and I’ve paid workers that have done repairs on my deck and sunroom - not the owners but very hard workers in very hot tips. I do give water as well.

Ooops, I didn’t answer your question. If he’s a skilled worker and not just a laborer and you were inclined to tip, I’d probably give the guy $100 since he’s probably making a good wage from the owner. But, if he’s a laborer, I’d probably give him more, maybe $200.

I have two pairs of compression “knee” socks. One is a black nylon pair from CVS. The other which I use on most flights is by Sockwell. They aren’t easy to get on. I also used them after my knee replacement to help with swelling in my lower leg. Used them last week on one leg when I had some edema.
Also in Europe I use compression no show socks as when I’m walking a lot and it’s hot my feel tend to swell. One pair is CEP and the other Sockwell.

I also use Sockwell compression socks - not only for travel, but for times when I’m going to be on my feet a lot hone or away, and at home when my ankles swell.

For reasons I don’t want to discuss here, we only hire licensed contractors. So no cash at the end of the shift kind of deal. We never tip any of their employees.

ETA: if you ever want to add any of your home remodeling costs to the cost basis
when you sell, make sure to save not only receipts but also copies of signed contracts if you did not do the work yourself. You might need those to justify the cost basis.
